40 years of Project WET and coordinator Anne Lewis has been with us for 24 of them! We are so appreciative of our long-term coordinators like Anne who helped shape us into the organization that we are today. Here's her piece about her time with us.

"Project WET has been the backbone of the watershed education and outreach project here in South Dakota. Project WET KIDS books are a go-to staple for our Water Festivals. I use a lot of Healthy Water, Healthy People activities in our professional development. Looking ahead, we are collaborating with Project Learning Tree to revitalize outreach and get the Project WET Guide into more educators' hands."

Exciting news: a solar eclipse is coming! On Saturday, October 14, 2023 South Dakota will be able to see 59.06% of the solar eclipse. With all the excitement that comes with a solar eclipse we just wanted to remind everyone how to enjoy the solar eclipse safely.

According to NASA, partial solar eclipses are never safe to look out without eye protection. When looking at the solar eclipse, you must use solar safe eye protection otherwise also called "Eclipse Glasses". Eclipse glasses are not normal sunglasses, no matter how dark sunglasses are they will not work to protect your eyes against an eclipse.

NASA also states, "Do NOT look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer — the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury."

Walked out the door and was greeted by a hummingbird! Stood still for awhile to let it drink. Also heard it “chirp”!

Had a great time working with the staff and kids. After learning about circuits they had fun exploring how different materials set between an LED light and a backdrop to create “northern lights”!
