Fundraiser for Recovering from Religion
I’ve chatted with lots of guests on my weekly FreeThought Hour show and some have shed a tear as they recalled the difficulties they encountered growing up - having their self confidence destroyed, physical beatings, purity culture, gaslighting, hijab shaming, JW shunning, etc. Some are left with mental health issues - a guilt complex or variant of PTSD. Others have lost their partners, family and friends, or even their job.

These people require help to recover from the harm done to them during their upbringing in a faith, and subsequent escape from it. This need was recognised by Dr Darrel Ray some years ago and he set up recoveringfromreligion.org to offer a free counselling service.

Since its USA origin, RfR has spread to other parts of the world, including the UK, and my show this Saturday is a bit of a departure from the normal Freethought Hour - it’s a marathon fundraiser for RfR. Lots of friends will be dropping in to chat over three and a half hours. There will be music and clips to entertain us.

And we are giving up our time to ask for donations to RfR.

I'm doing a fundraiser for Recovering from Religion on Saturday 19th Feb
As I expect you know, RfR does sterling work helping people suffering from trauma as a result of their upbringing in, and escape from, religion.

His event has some fantastic guests as you will see from the poster at the end of the video - it includes Psychiatrist Dr Darrel Ray who founded RfR in 2013
Since YFNA (Ethan Micheal) is based in CST, his event occurs during our night,
so my proposal is to do the first leg of a relay and hand the baton over to him
The idea is to start at 8:30 and go to midnight (UK time),
in other words, it will follow my Global Atheist News in the manner that my live streamed FreeThought Hour show normally does
I'm looking for guests to join us onscreen to wish us well or tell us about their experience with religion
- just a short appearance
to show solidarity and encourage donations
