FREEDOM
Thank our Soldier’s 🇺🇸 and
Our SAVIOR 🙌
Tomorrow, as a nation, we will celebrate the 4th of July, America’s Independence Day. It is a day of flags waving, fireworks lighting the sky, families gathering, and hearts remembering that freedom has never been cheap. Behind the celebration stands a history of sacrifice, courage, conviction, and providence. Our nation was born in uncertain days, when men and women faced hardships they could not fully see beyond. They did not know all that the future held, but they believed liberty was worth the cost. They dreamed of a land where people could live, worship, work, raise their families, and pursue life under the blessing and favor of Almighty God.
As I think about America, I cannot help but think about the goodness of God that has been seen through the years. He guided through dark nights, strengthened through bloody fields, preserved through wars, sustained through sorrow, and blessed beyond what we deserve. We are not a perfect nation, because we are not a perfect people. We have had our failures, our sins, our divisions, and our struggles. But still, the hand of God has been upon us. The words we have often pledged are not empty words: “one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Those words remind us that our hope is not merely in government, armies, economy, or human wisdom. Our hope is in the God who rules over nations, raises them up, humbles them, and calls them to righteousness. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD” (Psalm 33:12).
Freedom is a precious gift. There are many places in this world where people cannot gather openly to worship, cannot speak freely, cannot hold a Bible without fear, and cannot live without the shadow of oppression. Yet tomorrow, many of us will gather under a free sky, in a land where church bells can still ring, prayers can still be prayed, Bibles can still be preached, and families can still teach their children about the Lord. That ought to stir something deep within us. We should not take lightly what others bled to secure and what God has graciously allowed us to enjoy.
But as wonderful as American freedom is, there is a greater freedom still. Jesus said, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). Political freedom can free a man from tyranny, but only Christ can free a soul from sin. A flag can remind us of national liberty, but the cross reminds us of eternal liberty. Soldiers died that we might live free in this land, but Jesus died that we might live free forever. He broke the chains of sin. He opened the prison doors of guilt. He delivered us from condemnation. He set us free from the bo***ge of death, hell, and the grave.
So tomorrow, when we see the flag wave, may we be thankful. When we hear the fireworks, may we remember. When we enjoy the blessings of this land, may we not forget the God who has been so merciful to us. And if you are an American and a Christian, then you are doubly free—and you ought to be twice thankful. Free as a citizen of this blessed nation, and free as a child of God. Free under the banner of liberty, and free under the blood of the Lamb. May our hearts say with gratitude, “Thank God for America,” but even more, “Thank God for Jesus.”
