Had a call from a client in the Edgehill community of York County in reference to their cameras not working properly. What we discovered was someone had tampered with their backyard camera and actually had tried to break the lock or “jimmy” the device. Moreover, the rear door Link camera was ripped off the base and taken.
This is a frustrating situation. However, it is easily remedied. What Williams Public Safety Solutions recommends when setting up a security camera system is as follows:
1. Install Out of Reach: Mount cameras 9-10 feet high to prevent quick, direct access.
2. Use Vandal-Proof Cameras: Choose cameras with an IK10 rating and metal casings designed to withstand impact.
3. Conceal Wiring: Ensure wires are not exposed by running them through walls, ceilings, or protective metal conduits. Explore wireless camera options as well. Blink and Ring make options like these.
4. Use Protective Housing: Cover cameras with protective, clear domes or cages.
5. Mounting Security: Use security screws (e.g., Torx screws) that require specialized tools to remove.
Moreover, in situations like this it is important to notify your local law enforcement agency on the nonemergency number to inform them of what occurred and provide them with any pictures or evidence that can help them catch the criminal.
