Situational awareness, a Questioning Attitude, and decisive action can make a life-saving difference.
We at KnowledgeVine are so very proud of the caliber of workforce and want to share with our friends and partners two incredible recent acts of bravery and selflessness by two members of our team.
Most recently, while traveling in North Carolina, a KnowledgeVine field coach, Pat Moses (currently working on ULCS 102) observed a vehicle ahead emitting smoke, which quickly escalated to visible flames beneath the car. After unsuccessful attempts to alert the driver, as a retired police officer, he applied his law enforcement training and executed a rolling barricade to safely stop the vehicle.
Pat approached the vehicle, informed the driver of the fire, and discovered four infants inside. He acted immediately, assisting the driver and all four children out of the vehicle. Within moments, the car became fully engulfed.
The driver was unaware of the danger. Pat’s quick thinking and trained response saved five lives.
But our story doesn’t end here. In February, KnowledgeVine field coach Jake Dryden, working with our client CenterPoint Energy, witnessed a truck veer off the road and flipped upside down into a water-filled ditch. Without hesitation, Jake and another passerby immediately responded.
Entering the water, they went beneath the surface to locate the occupants—a man and his son—trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Working quickly under pressure, they cut the seatbelts and freed both individuals, pulling them safely out of the submerged truck.
In a matter of moments, a dangerous situation could have turned tragic. Instead, through quick thinking, courage, and decisive action, two lives were saved.
While not everyone should attempt a rescue like these, this is a strong reminder of the importance of training, vigilance, and decisive leadership in critical moments.
A powerful reminder of the impact of readiness, teamwork, and stepping up when it counts most.
