HIRING - DESIGN PROJECT MANAGER
Rocconic and Sign Innovation are custom manufacturers of unique built environments and signage. We are looking for Design / Project Managers (DPM) to help service our ever-growing base of customers. Due to the unique projects we work on we need individuals who are both artistic and analytical. Our projects often require a Designer / Project Manager to understand color, fit and finish, as well as the mechanics of how it is built. Our DPM must be able to have a conversation with a customer one minute and an engineer the next.
A Design Project Manager (DPM) is responsible for assisting in all facets of a given project. From planning, design, pricing, code research, vendor coordination, customer approvals, landlord approvals; along with production, delivery, and installation coordination. The DPM interfaces with both internal personnel, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and stakeholders.
Rocconic and Sign Innovation have dedicated Project Manager and Design / Engineering departments. This DPM would interface and work with both depending on the need of the project.
• Responsibilities:
Design: Applicants must be proficient in Adobe Illustrator and/or other relevant design software. We produce 3D environments, signage, sculptures, and unique installations. Designers will work closely with engineering to ensure designs are functional, but ultimately creativity and uniqueness are paramount.
Project Management: The DPM is responsible for assisting with projects from cradle to grave. They are expected to create systems within Rocconic / SI to help keep organized the work flow of their projects. They will be required to balance supplier lead times, internal manufacturing deadlines, external vendor costs, and extenuating circumstances to produce a product that is on time, of exceptional quality, and within budget.
Organization: Organization is among one of the most critical components of the DPM position. In most cases the account is an established account that requires their program be managed responsibly. Keeping organized, and being able to quickly and effectively communicate schedules, to both internal and external partners is of the utmost importance. Without organization the program is destined to failure.
Communication: Communication is another extremely important aspect of the DPM program. The DPM is required to communicate with production, purchasing, engineering, design, vendors, suppliers, customers, general contractors, and management. Communicating schedules, set-backs, design options, costs, expectations, and technical information are examples of the communication categories required for the DPM.
Budget Management: The DPM is required to strive and bring a project in under or on budget. This requires the DPM to be versed in the all the aspects of the project and understand the underlying costs that can affect the budget.
Estimating: From time to time a DPM will be asked to review take offs of commercial drawings to establish quantities, locations, material call outs, finishes, etc… Project Managers will need to work with internal estimating software to establish best pricing.
Strategic Planning: Understanding material availability, fabrication limitations, supplier lead times, and market factors are an important component of strategic planning. Strategic planning requires the DPM to coordinate with engineering to ensure the correct materials are being used, coordination with purchasing to ensure material is ordered, coordination with fabrication to ensure the correct resources are allocated to the project, and coordination with the customer and installers to ensure that everyone is aware of the schedule and changes to the schedule.
Crisis Management:The nature of custom manufacturing dictates that there will always be unforeseen circumstances that cause a project's scope, design, or timeline to be altered. It is a constant balancing act to ensure the vendors and installers in the field are holding to their schedule and that any issues are addressed quickly and professionally. No matter how pro-active a DPM can be there will always be situations where reactions and decisions need made quickly. It is a part of the position. A DPM must be comfortable in stressful situations and be confident in their ability to handle whatever may come.
Project Closure: Seeing a project through to the end speaks for itself. A DPM must ensure that every project is closed out and complete. Continuing Improvement:
