Regardless of how you prepare and make plans and focus on ex*****on, the reality of the matter is that there will be off days.

There will be days that you will be off your game, days where you don’t quite make the mark, and days where, for no justifiable reasons at all, you just can’t seem to get it together. As frustrating as this may be, fear not, it’s a part of life.

If you were hoping for some long-winded anecdote – there isn’t one. The only real remedy here is to not beat yourself up about it. Instead, try to pinpoint what has you feeling this way (that may mean turning your off day into a day off to medz it out). Once you’ve identified the issue, take whatever steps you need to to mitigate the problem, and trod on.

An off day does not have to become an off year.

We’ve discussed big dreams before and how most of the dreams tied into your purpose will be too big for you to execute all on your own. We’ve also admitted that sometimes you will need help from others in order to bring your dreams and visions into fruition, but that being said it is important to note that you cannot and should not put the realisation of your dreams and visions at the mercy of others.

How many times have you known what to do and “they” said they would help you do, and you waited in vain, allowing your vision to languish, while “they” never came through? On the other hand, how many times have you discarded your dreams and visions because “they” told you it was outlandish and couldn’t be done? Similarly, how many times have you gotten “support” for your visions, only to be told by a “concerned” “friend” or “family member” that “they” won’t ever allow you to do it? The main question you really need to be asking yourself is “who is they?”

While there may be some sound reasoning behind your hesitancy to proceed without a team in place, oftentimes we use the “they” in our lives as delaying tactic and or crutch for lack of action because we are secretly afraid about the magnitude of the vision, or unsure of our abilities to bring it into fruition the way we see it in our mind’s eye. When “they” tell you it can’t be done, the reason it often resonates is because you hold this same belief internally, whether or not you will readily admit it. You believe “they” won’t allow you to accomplish your dreams because you have not allowed yourself to live up to your fullest potential.

Now obviously it would remiss to say that there is no outside opposition, and that in every industry and avenue in life that there isn’t some barrier to entry, but their existence does not mean that you should not push forward in the pursuit of your dreams.

Whoever your “they” may be, take the advice of Danai Gurira, and “forget the they. Just do.”

When the issues of life come barrelling towards us, and deadlines are approaching with the force of freight trains, all the while time is running away from us like an unruly toddler in the supermarket; the urge to pull a Zack Morris and hit life with a “time out,” is tempting.

The thought of having the ability to put life (and all of its moving parts) on hold seems like the perfect solution to the age old problem of so much to do so little time. Having everything stand still while you churn out projects, assignments, and products – letting you be ever prepared and ever ahead of the curve. While the implementation of such a mechanism is nothing more than a fantasy at this point, many of us find ourselves wishing life would slow down so we can catch and/or keep up. In a time of stress this seems like a good idea, but is this what you really want?

Really think about it. If you have been waiting for the right opportunity for years - putting in the work so that when it arrives you will be ready – time slowing down is actually a delay to the arrival of that opportunity, more than it is a chance for you to be prepared. If time seems to be slipping away from you, refocus and restrategise. Get better organised and employ laser focus on the tasks you put your hands and mind to. When things start spinning at a speed that you cannot maintain, take a time out. Put your mind in time out, take a day off, or schedule a few hours at least one day in the work week to pamper yourself. Once you’ve rested a while, get back at it with renewed clarity and achieve the goals you have set for yourself.

You may not be able to Zack Morris time, but you can Zack Morris your racing thoughts and flustered mind. Whenever you need to, take a mental time out.
