The University of the Virgin Islands’ student athletes are amazing examples of commitment, dedication, leadership, teamwork, and academic success! We are extremely proud of them and congratulate our graduating seniors who were blessed with UVI customized athlete jackets!

Most successful leaders were once athletes who played a team sport!

I’m proud to be a former UVI Lady Buccaneer. #22 on women’s basketball team as the shooting guard and point guard & now proudly UVI’s Head Buccaneer and Chief Cheerleader and Champion for Student Success!

On Friday, March 13, 2026, we soft-launched Charter Week on the OEK Campus, commemorating the founding of the University of the Virgin Islands, chartered in 1962. This year’s theme, “In Pursuit of Dreams: Celebrating Leadership and Virgin Islands Excellence,” was reflected throughout the program.

The ceremony was hosted by Dr. Kyza A. Callwood and opened with an invocation by Dale Morton. Remarks were shared by Dr. Xuri Allen, Dr. Andrea Dorsey, student speaker Trevincia Browne, 2026 President Scholar, as well as Lieutenant Governor Tregenza A. Roach, Esq., Senator Donna Frett-Gregory, and myself, Dr. Safiya George. The program also featured presentations from UVI’s Communication and Performing Arts Department, along with a special performance by the University of Maryland Baltimore County Student Choir.
