Zhōu Yú was a talented general, who defeated Cao Cao’s army in Battle of Chibi ( known as Red Clift Battle). However, he would have been more successful in his career, unless he had had so much desire. He wanted a quick success so badly that he pushed too much pressure on himself, making him suffer from enomous mental stress.
His desire also closed himself from the voice of wisdom. He refused the Lu Su’s strategy, considered his subodinate as traitor until his final thought. Before the death took him away, Zhou Yu realized that he was too blind and too naive to understand Lu Su’s idea, that Lu Su was his great succesor.
Anyway, before drawing any conclusion, we must consider the circumstances where the Great General was raised and spent his short life in. Without so much information, it is unfair to judge what he did right, where he was wrong.
The lesson is still for people to have their own.
