🌍 Global Pepper Market Update – May 2025
📈 Strong Prices Continue Amid Tight Supply

Dear followers,
Sharing a snapshot of the black pepper market this May, as we engage with partners globally on trade opportunities.

🔹 1. Market at a Glance
For the 5th year in a row, global demand outpaces supply. Early 2025 data points to slightly lower output, reinforcing strong pricing.

🔹 2. Key Production Regions
🇻🇳 Vietnam:
• 2024 production at 172,000 MT (▼2% YoY, ▼47% from peak).
• Farmers holding stocks, betting on higher future prices.

🇮🇳 India (Karnataka):
• 2025 forecast down 20–25% (possibly to 78,000 MT).
• Driven by weather issues and crop switching.

🇧🇷 Brazil (Espírito Santo):
• 2025 expected at 85,000–90,000 MT (▲13–20% YoY).
• First harvest yields ~20,000 MT.

🇮🇩 Indonesia:
• Forecast: 62,997 MT (▼8.7%) due to underinvestment and poor weather.

🔹 3. Vietnam Export Trends
• Asia exports down 40% (China ▼>80%, now slowly recovering).
• US & Middle East demand up 20–30%.
• China Q1 imports ▲87.8% YoY but still well below 2023.

📊 April 1–15 Snapshot:
• Export volume: 11,291 MT (▼1.6% MoM).
• Value: $78.4M (▲34.2% YoY).
• Avg. YTD price: $6,882/ton (▲37% YoY).

🔹 4. Price Drivers
• Domestic prices steady at 157,000–160,000 VND/kg for 18 weeks.
• Currency volatility (USD/VND) a key concern for exporters.

🔹 5. What’s Ahead
• Tight supply + strong demand = firm prices likely to hold.
• Watch for China’s restocking pace and weather impacts in India & Brazil during Q3.

𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐂𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐒𝐧𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭
The coconut sector is facing some big changes this month. Here’s a quick look at what’s happening:
🔸 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧 – Thailand is shifting away from long-cycle coconuts, and Indonesia has stepped up export controls.
🔸 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚 – Buyers in Thailand and China are actively sourcing from Vietnam, pushing domestic prices upward.
🔸 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 – Competition for premium raw materials is heating up.
🔸 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 – New U.S. tariff developments are adding complexity to sourcing decisions.

🌱 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝘁𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🌱

As climate change accelerates, coconut production worldwide faces significant challenges. Key coconut-growing countries like 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦, 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐚, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚 are seeing the effects of unpredictable weather patterns, extreme temperatures, and irregular rainfall.

In Vietnam’s Ben Tre province, rising temperatures and reduced rainfall are impacting yields, making it harder for farmers to predict harvest cycles. This is not only a concern for farmers but also for the global coconut supply chain.
Farmers are adapting with strategies like climate-resilient coconut varieties, water management techniques, and agro forestry. The coconut industry is also embracing climate-smart agriculture, with companies supporting farmers through CSR initiatives and technological innovations.

The future of coconut production depends on sustainable farming practices, innovation, and collaboration between farmers, governments, and the private sector. By focusing on resilience, the coconut industry can continue to thrive despite climate challenges.
