๐ฐ TRADE DESK NOTE โ Cashew, Not Durian This Time
Vietnam has held the #1 spot in global cashew processing and export for 19 straight years โ ~80% of world processing capacity. 2025 exports hit $5.22B; first 7 months of 2026 already at $2.91B (413,700 tons), average price $7,035/ton, +3.4%.
The catch: Vietnam can't grow enough cashew to feed its own factories. H1 2026 raw cashew imports hit a record $3.02B (1.81M tonnes) โ and Cambodia alone now supplies 56.3% of that value (+25.9% YoY), ahead of the traditional African suppliers (Cรดte d'Ivoire, Tanzania, Nigeria).
On the sell side: China (24.4% of exports, +11.5%) and the US (21.5%, +8.3%) remain the anchors, but Canada is the standout โ exports there up 59%.
Read for traders: Vietnam's cashew edge isn't farmland, it's processing capacity + logistics + buyer relationships. Raw-material sourcing (increasingly from Cambodia, not Africa) is now as much a part of the trade as the finished kernel.
