LET’S START 2025 with some inpiring news…: Vietnam Named One of the Most Beautiful Countries in the World 2024

Vietnam has been ranked among the 40 most beautiful countries in the world for 2024, according to the prestigious U.S. magazine US News & World Report.

The ranking, based on surveys of over 17,000 travelers and expert evaluations worldwide, scored countries on a 100-point scale across various criteria.

Vietnam secured 36th place with high scores in key categories:
- Culinary excellence: 63.7 points
- Unique attractions: 64.3 points
- Rich history: 48 points
- Natural beauty: 45.2 points
- Friendliness: 43.8 points

US News & World Report, established in 1933, highlighted Vietnam's transformation since the 1986 economic reforms (Đổi Mới), praising its modern development and increasing global competitiveness.

We are excited to share the cover of the 3rd issue of *Global B2Business Magazine*, which features our CVO, Betty Pallard, in the cover, featuring a major editorial only discussing challenges in regards of sustainability transformation in the landscape of Vietnam, advocating for sustainability and ESG standards in Vietnam.

Betty’ sharing is widely introducing Vietnam, and its important decisions to achieve Net-zero maybe before 2050 (who knows!), all the highlights in the interview stem from a collective effort, via different Circles of Business and individuals that clearly accelerate their directions to a greener future, everyday more and more.

The recent brings new opportunities and challenges to the climate action landscape. A pressing question arises: What’s next for climate action?

Here’s a brief summary of what transpired and was agreed upon at COP29 Azerbaijan, with nearly 200 countries in attendance:

🌿 Bolder goals were set, with commitments to triple financial support to developing countries, reaching $300 billion annually by 2035.

🌿 Significant progress was achieved on global under the Paris Agreement, with the final building blocks of Article 6 completed after 10 years of development.

🌿 Transparency in and the effectiveness of climate policies took center stage, aiming to make countries' NDCs and net-zero pathways more reliable and actionable.

🌿 While climate remained the core focus, other critical aspects were also addressed, including gender equality, youth empowerment, and civil society participation. These efforts underline the importance of partnerships and for building a more sustainable and equitable world.

Despite skepticism about the effectiveness and integrity of certain outcomes, it is essential to recognize the progress made. The COP29 has openned some meaningful dialogues, and it's now to work on them.

Here are some key considerations and questions as we navigate the way forward:

💡 When operationalizing country-to-country trading and a carbon crediting mechanism, the absence of stringent rules risks enabling flawed emissions trading and undermining authentic decarbonization efforts. Experts from Carbon Market Watch highlight that countries seem to accept to deal with consequences rather than prevent them.

💡 The agreement to increase climate finance to $300 billion annually is a significant step, but many climate activists argue that it remains insufficient for the Global South to effectively implement climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, as well as to contribute to global decarbonization.

💡 The paradox of growth persists. Some voices, including The Guardian, have raised concerns about the participation of actors with vested interests in fossil fuels in critical climate discussions, calling for more robust governance to ensure impartiality.

One clear takeaway is the urgency to accelerate our collective efforts. Moving away from a growth-centric mindset to prioritize sustainability, fostering inclusivity across stakeholders, and driving genuine innovation are key to making meaningful progress while avoiding superficial solutions.

🌲 Celebrating 60 Years of Leadership in Forestry Education

ESGs & Climate Consulting has been very honored to be invited to celebrate an important moment today at this special and impressive event in the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam National University of Forestry (Trường Đại Học Lâm Nghiệp - VNUF). Our Chief Vision Officer, Betty Pallard, represented our firm at the ceremony where she could give her insights on Carbon Market development and the pivotal role that a good forest management could bring in the very close future, knowing the urgency to tackle seriously the current challenges provoked by the obvious climate change on the 14th of November.

This significant milestone event gathered esteemed guests, including Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, Distinguished Alumni and Vice Chairman of Hoa Binh Provincial People's Committee Dinh Cong Su, and Rémi Nono Womdim, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)’s Representative in Vietnam. Their attendance underscored the profound role forestry plays in Vietnam’s sustainable development journey.

Over the past six decades, Vietnam National University of Forestry has grown remarkably, from a modest start to a leading institution with over 12,000 students. It has produced more than 50,000 technical and managerial graduates, who now serve as pioneers in forestry and environmental protection across the country. As COP29 Azerbaijan discussions in Baku continue, the voices of young climate advocates have taken center stage. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed solidarity with youth activists, acknowledging their frustration over the lack of political urgency. “You have every right to be angry. I am angry too”, he emphasized, calling for systemic reform and equitable solutions to address the climate crisis.

This pivotal youth dialogue, organized by YOUNGO and the Youth Advisory Group, demonstrated the importance of including diverse perspectives in the fight for climate justice. From green finance and urban resilience to the integration of indigenous knowledge, young leaders are not just participants - they are shaping solutions.

“Ngôn ngữ mới” cho doanh nghiệp Việt Nam trong thời đại toàn cầu hoá

Ngay sau phiên thảo luận về tài chính bền vững vào ngày đầu tiên của Green Economy Forum & Exhibition 2024 (GEFE), đội ngũ của ESGs & Climate Consulting đã có một buổi phỏng vấn ngắn gọn với ông Đỗ Ngọc Quỳnh, hiện đang là Tổng thư ký của Hiệp hội Thị trường Trái phiếu Việt Nam (VBMA), một chuyên gia tài chính - đầu tư hàng đầu tại Việt Nam với nhiều năm kinh nghiệm, nhằm trao đổi về tầm quan trọng của phát triển bền vững tại Việt Nam hiện nay.

Ông Quỳnh cho rằng, Phát triển bền vững hay vấn đề về ESG hiện nay không chỉ dừng lại ở hai từ “xu thế” mà còn là một “ngôn ngữ mới” mà bất cứ tổ chức hay doanh nghiệp nào cũng cần phải chủ động tiếp cận, học hỏi và nắm bắt.

Ông Quỳnh cũng đã có những so sánh vô cùng thú vị khi cho rằng giống như chuyển đổi số, phát triển bền vững hay những tiêu chuẩn về ESGs sẽ trở thành một yếu tố bắt buộc, là ngôn ngữ giao tiếp của các doanh nghiệp. Đối với doanh nghiệp và các tổ chức, việc chú trọng đến phát triển bền vững cũng như tuân thủ các tiêu chuẩn ESG giúp doanh nghiệp có thể tồn tại, cạnh tranh và phát triển trong bối cảnh hiện nay. Cá nhân cũng đóng vai trò vô cùng quan trọng trong việc tạo ra những nỗ lực hợp tác, góp phần thúc đẩy hành trình “chuyển đổi xanh".

Chuyển đổi số đã không còn là một nhu cầu mà trở thành một yêu cầu bắt buộc, là một yếu tố quan trọng quyết định vị thế của một quốc gia trong thời kỳ mới. Những năm vừa qua với sự xuất hiện của đại dịch COVID, thực tế cho thấy rằng các doanh nghiệp đón đầu và biết nắm bắt kịp thời xu hướng chuyển đổi số không chỉ trở nên chủ động hơn trước thời cuộc mà còn đạt được những thành công nhất định.

Nghị Quyết số 136/NQ-CP của Chính phủ về Phát triển bền vững ban hành vào năm 2020 càng cho thấy tầm quan trọng và sự cấp thiết trong vấn đề phát triển bền vững tại Việt Nam. Nói phát triển bền vững là một ngôn ngữ mới bởi lẽ cũng giống như chuyển đổi số, doanh nghiệp có thể chủ động thích nghi và nắm bắt được “ngôn ngữ” này sẽ đạt được những giá trị và lợi ích nhất định. A New Language for Vietnamese Businesses in the Globalization Era

Following a discussion on sustainable finance on the first day of the Green Economy Forum & Exhibition 2024 (GEFE), the ESGs & Climate Consulting team conducted a brief interview with Mr. Do Ngoc Quynh, Secretary-General of the Vietnam Bond Market Association (VBMA), a leading finance and investment expert in Vietnam with many years of experience, to discuss the importance of sustainable development and ESG issues today.

Mr. Quynh argued that sustainable development and ESG issues are no longer just a "trend" but a "new language" that any organization or business needs to proactively approach, learn, and master.

Mr. Quynh also made an interesting comparison, stating that, similar to digital transformation, sustainable development and ESG standards will become a mandatory factor and the language of communication for businesses. For businesses and organizations, focusing on sustainable development and adhering to ESG standards helps them survive, compete, and thrive in the current context. Individuals also play a crucial role in creating collaborative efforts to accelerate the green transition.

Digital transformation has ceased to be a need but has become a mandatory requirement, a critical factor in determining a nation's position in the new era. In recent years, with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been evident that businesses that have taken the lead and promptly grasped the digital transformation trend have not only become more proactive in the face of the times but have also achieved certain successes.

Government Resolution No. 136/NQ-CP on Sustainable Development, issued in 2020, further demonstrates the importance and urgency of sustainable development in Vietnam. Sustainable development is called a new language because, similar to digital transformation, businesses that can proactively adapt and master this "language" will achieve certain values and benefits. Especially in the context of global sustainable development, people, businesses, and the nation as a whole need to make every effort in the green transition journey, turning challenges into opportunities to integrate with the world.
