III. NHỮNG CUNG ĐƯỜNG VẤT VẢ MƯU SINH :

Xuất phát từ những người nông dân nghèo khó, phải làm thuê cho công việc vất vả này để nuôi sống gia đình, sau những hộ dân khác thấy có hy vọng tích lũy được tiền nhờ giảm chi phí thức ăn cho vịt nên dần khá giả hơn.

Nhưng do chiến loạn liên miên nên họ cũng gặp nhiều nguy hiểm trên những cánh đồng đầy bom đạn cày xới.

Chiến tranh kết thúc, kinh tế suy sụp, nghề thả vịt đồng có hy vọng phục hồi vì nhanh có thực phẩm (trứng thịt) cho gia đình, tuy nhiên họ - những người chăn thả vịt chạy đồng lại gặp bao gian khổ khác như trộm vịt, bị du kích xã khám xét hay bắt giữ vì trốn đi lính...

Ở đồng bằng sông Cửu Long có những cung đường ruộng hay được người dân sử dụng để chăn thả vịt chạy đồng:

1- Hướng An Giang qua Đồng Tháp đi Long An, đây là hướng đi chủ yếu nuôi vịt đẻ lấy trứng.

2- Kiên Giang xuống Hậu Giang, Sóc Trăng về Cần Thơ lại tập trung nuôi vịt thịt.

3- Vĩnh Long qua Tiền Giang và từ các tỉnh khác cùng tập trung vào Long An để cung ứng thịt và trứng cho Sài Gòn .

Nhờ những chiếc ghe mà có nơi để cắm sào đậu giữa đầm lầy, giữa rừng ngập nước, có cái để mang thồ nông sản, thực phẩm. Chiếc ghe dùng chăn thả vịt, dùng để đánh bắt cá, dùng để đi thăm viếng bà con hàng xóm, đi dự đám, lễ trong vùng.

Các bầy le le, vịt trời quầy cư cùng bầy vịt cỏ đã tạo ra giống vịt đàn của địa phương có sức chịu đựng dẻo dai, sinh sản phù hợp với sông nước trong vùng.

Giống vịt du nhập đầu tiên vào đồng bằng sông Cửu Long là giống vịt tàu Triều Châu theo chân những người Minh Hương vào Nam bộ thế kỷ XVII.

Khi người Pháp xuất hiện ở đồng bằng sông Cửu Long vào thế kỷ XIX thì một số nông sản, gia cầm, thú nuôi gốc Pháp, châu Âu cũng xuất hiện theo.

Tóm lại chảy theo dòng lịch sử, vùng đất sông nước Cửu Long được bổ sung thêm nhiều sản vật phong phú để người dân vùng đất này khai thác và phát triển
