🌦️ Celebrating a Major Milestone for VMHS! 🇻🇺🏆

Today marked a significant achievement for the Vanuatu Meteorological and Hydrometeorological Services (VMHS) as they reached an important milestone towards Part 174 Certification, meeting the international standards and requirements set by ICAO and WMO. ✈️🌍

This achievement reflects years of dedication and commitment, including the development and implementation of core processes, internal auditing, and external auditing by PASO to verify compliance.

After more than 10 years of work, VMHS has reached this significant point, with Quality Solutions (QS) supporting the journey from 2024 through to 2026. 🤝📋

VMHS is a true pioneer among Vanuatu government departments, demonstrating that public-sector organisations can pursue and achieve internationally recognised standards and continually improve the quality of their services. 🇻🇺✨

🌏 Promoting International Standards for Vanuatu Businesses 🇻🇺

In collaboration with VCCI, the QS team delivered a half-day session with both private and public sector partners on the benefits of international certifications. 📋✅

These included HACCP for food products 🍽️🥗 and ISO certifications for goods and services 🏢📈.

Three certified companies shared their experiences and testimonies on how certification has supported their growth, development and success over the years. 🚀👏

🏆 Vodafone Vanuatu — ISO 9001 certified in May 2026
🍴 Lapita Cafe — HACCP certified in 2024
🏭 Pacific Polytanks — AS/NZS 4766 certified in 2016

All three companies have continued to maintain their certifications, with one participant describing it as a “good” problem…

📈 Too much demand! 😄

Their experiences also inspired several young business owners to consider pursuing certification themselves, after hearing first-hand how international standards can contribute to business growth and credibility. 💡💼

💰 VCCI is offering financial assistance for 3 companies to obtain either ISO or HACCP certification, with applications closing tomorrow, 2 September 2026. ⏰

A total of 23 committed participants attended the session. Especially impressive considering it was a Public Holiday! 🇻🇺👏 This is a great testament to their commitment and determination to succeed.

From the Public Sector, the Department of Tourism Accreditation team attended, along with VBTC, to explore how international management systems can help improve service delivery to the public. 🏛️📊

***Export Pathway Support – HACCP & ISO Certification***

The opportunity:

The Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry is providing the necessary consulting support to help potential exporters of food and beverage products achieve HACCP and ISO certification.
This includes the services of Quality Solutions, an ISO 9001 certified consulting firm, for up to 6 months to develop and implement a customised certification plan. This opportunity will be offered initially to 3 businesses.

One-on-one consulting involves;

1. A gap analysis of your business against the HACCP standard
2. Creating an action plan with estimated timelines and costs
3. Preparation of a HACCP / ISO staff training plan, internal audit and management review
4. Arranging for and attending to the external certification audit
5. Assistance in addressing external audit non-conformities

Selection criteria:

The following selection criteria will be used to evaluate and select participant businesses for the above opportunity:

1. Industry sector experience: Minimum 3 years.
2. Potential (international & domestic) markets for food products once certified.
3. Documented procedures & processes (existing or otherwise)
4. Personnel details and credentials summary.
5. Facilities, housing and equipment (existing or planned)
6. Timeframe for certification (when you want to be certified by)
7. Impact of the certification on the business or organisation and its stakeholders

Vanuatu Abattoir Limited (VAL) recently engaged QS auditors to conduct an independent internal audit of their certified HACCP-based Food Safety Management System, helping identify any gaps and opportunities for continual improvement. 📋🔎

The audit included an on-site visit to the abattoir, where auditors interviewed staff, reviewed records, and observed the entire processing operation from start to finish. 👨‍🏭📑🐄

✈️📱 Today, we completed Safety Reporting Training for VTS (Vanuatu Terminal Services) using their new software, SERA (Safety Event Reporting & Analysis).

SERA lets ramp and check-in staff report safety, security, quality, and operational issues directly via a cloud-based platform, so management is informed more quickly and can take timely corrective action.

A strong Safety Management System (SMS) begins with identifying hazards 👀, reporting them 📝, and implementing effective controls 🛡️. SERA will now serve as VTS's primary reporting and feedback tool.

With a smartphone 📲, staff can instantly report hazards as they are identified. No more paper-based reporting ❌📄. The system also keeps staff informed on the progress of their reports, whether under review 🔄 or closed ✅.
