Learning from Slovenia: Advancing circular economy practices ♻️

We recently had the privilege to join a study visit in Slovenia, organized by People in Need and Rilindja e Gjelbër, alongside a dedicated team from Kosovo. This journey was an eye-opener, offering deep insights into how effective waste management and circular economy practices can drive sustainability and economic growth.

Key Takeaways from Slovenia:
✅ Strong collaboration between municipalities, the Ministry of Environment, waste management companies, and NGOs.
✅ Impressive waste separation at the source – 70% categorized into glass, metal, plastic, paper, and food waste.
✅ Efficient recycling facilities that convert waste into reusable materials, energy, and minimize landfill impact to just 5%.
✅ Public awareness initiatives promoting the donation of unused items and conscious consumption.
✅ Environmental policies influencing sustainable public procurement.

This model not only protects the environment but also creates new job opportunities and ensures a continuous supply of processed materials for the industry.

As a business dedicated to glass recycling, this experience has inspired new ideas for enhancing waste management practices in Kosovo. We believe that by adopting similar approaches, we can take meaningful steps toward a greener, more sustainable future.
