Our theme for Issue III is Traces. To submit your work, or just get in touch, email us: [email protected]

The theme is open to your own interpretation, and how the idea of ‘traces’ relates to your artistic practice or perception of East Anglia.

EAVA Zine is a manifestation of contemporary art, local culture, folkloric traditions and history in Norfolk, Suffolk and near bordering lands. We aim to uplift both artists that are from East Anglia and those who create work inspired by the region.

Our publication features artwork by painters, photographers, ceramicists, sculptors, musicians, poets and more. We want to hear from and share work by creatives of all kinds. Each issue is centred around a unique theme, which ties together all the work we have carefully and individually selected.

Several written features are selected per issue to delve into ideas, folklore, culture and history centred around the unique environs of East Anglia, so we would like to hear from writers too!

Thank you Wyn Lewis & Zeen Scene for a great review of our new issue!

"The zine has an earthy vibe, exploring the possibilities inherent in leaving our ordered world and reconnecting with the sometimes chaotic landscape. I have been looking forward to issue two since reading and enjoying issue one, Pilgrimages. It offers a relaxing, otherworldly reading experience which is accessible to all, although natives of East Anglia will have an enhanced connection to it.
..Throughout, the artwork is abstract, vivid and noisy - you can almost hear the long grass rustling in the wind. Some of the photos of flowers look almost alien; the shots are taken from a low angle and are very arresting... The writing is intelligent and interesting, and it is put together professionally. Still one of the new kids on the block but already making a name for itself, “Eava Zine” is the best zine you’ve never read."

Issue II: Roots now available to pre-order on our website:

Under the wide skies and dead-flat swathes of East Anglian open country, timeless spaces linger just beyond the boundaries of perfected lawns and paved roads, inviting us to meander away and rejoin the uncultivated world for a while. This issue explores how artists are compelled by their entanglement with the natural world, and inspired to creativity wherever we happen to put down roots.

Thank you to our contributors Olga Bialunska, Michael Carlo, Perienne Christian, Tor Falcon, Amy Gladding, Roger Hardy, Fred Ingrams, Bill Jackson, Claire Oxley, Julian Perry, Justin Partyka, Helen Taylor, Val Thomas, Frank Watson, and Benjamin Yates.

This issue is even bigger than Issue I, with an extra 30 pages! Pre-orders will begin shipping start of June.

“I am well on my way to becoming a tree myself. I put down roots. I sigh when the wind blows. My sap rises in the Spring, and I turn towards the sun.” - Roger Deakin

A small selection from our next issue, ‘Roger’s Place’ by Justin Partyka has some beautiful insights and photos from a visit to Deakin's home in Mellis, Suffolk.

We have had the pleasure of visiting Michael Carlo at his home and studio a few times now, and are very grateful to him for inviting us and making us feel so welcome. He showed us his process from start to finish and shared his personal history and journey through the art world. He even has a rarely seen private gallery which he gave us a tour of, which is more often used as his sanctuary for quiet considerations. Michael is a very humble artist and we really enjoy talking and pouring over books and ideas with him.

Every time we come away overwhelmed by his generosity, great stories, and are even more inspired to share artists who are incredibly talented but rarely in the public eye, quietly working away in their corner of East Anglia. We’re really happy to be featuring him in Issue II: Roots, and highly recommend visiting his website and getting in touch to get a piece of his art for yourself: www.michaelcarlo.uk
