Foreigner series:
This six part series are interpretations of the stereotypical association that the artist had imposed on himself and by others whilst being a foreigner in Europe and upon his return back to Korea.
Each work convey the struggle he had in presenting himself to others. The superficial and stereotypical portrayal of oneself became a way to gain acceptance by the locals.
By adopting the imageries produced by famous western and eastern artists in the style of Korean watercolour on Korean “hanji” paper. The pieces demonstrate an understanding on both sides, however the result creates an unintended curiosity due to the contradictions in styles.
