𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗮, 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟮, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 – Today, the Eurasian Tourism Association, within the framework of the project "A model for sustainable tourism in Central Asia: Building Capacities, Creating Awareness, Introducing technology" (MOST), funded within the framework of the European Union's "SwitсhAsia" program, held a round table on the topic "The EU Grant Project MOST - the vector of development of sustainable tourism in Kazakhstan". The event brought together government agencies, associations, hotels, travel and consulting companies in Astana.

The results of the implementation of the MOST project in Kazakhstan were announced. Within the framework of the project in the period from 2020 to 2023, a number of trainings were held for enterprises of the tourism industry, as well as events for government agencies with a total coverage of about 100 people in Kazakhstan. Also, 27 companies gained access to new technologies that allow them to keep records of environmental indicators, which will help them pass environmental certification. Within the framework of the project, the installation of 10 equipment for monitoring the receipt and consumption of electricity, and climate control for travel companies and hotels is envisaged.

Chairman of the Tourism Industry Committee of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dastan Ryspekov spoke about measures to support the tourism business, improvement of national parks, as well as the introduction of a quality system for tourist services, including standards for sustainable tourism.

General coordinator of the MOST project Prof. Gian Andrea Garancini shared the results of a study of state policy in the field of tourism in Central Asia and noted the need to develop social tourism, public transport and infrastructure for all segments of the population. It was also recommended to avoid the development of mass tourism in Kazakhstan, and to concentrate on investments in the field of sustainable tourism.

Director of the hotel "Absolute" Asiya Nazarova, sharing her experience in implementing sustainable management measures, noted that it is necessary to pay more attention to the environmental education of society.

In conclusion, the President of the Eurasian Tourism Association Rysty Karabayeva noted that the issue of sustainability is an endless process. In this regard, it is necessary to support all players in this exciting process on an ongoing basis.

The MOST project is being implemented in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan between 2020 and 2023. The total budget of the project is 2.009.909,40 euros, the contribution of the European Union is 1.607.927,40 euros.

Greetings from Samarkand, Uzbekistan! ✨
EU SWITCH-Asia Programme cooperation project MOST between 🇱🇻Latvia, 🇬🇷Greece, 🇺🇿Uzbekistan, 🇰🇿Kazakhstan and 🇹🇯Tajikistan is ending. In the project, Lauku Ceļotājs shared experience and practical knowledge about sustainable and nature-friendly management in tourism and marketing.
🏤Their experts went to several hotels to share their experience on environmentally friendly management and saving resources. There was also the opportunity to visit the Silk Road International University of Tourism, which is the first international university in Uzbekistan where you can get bachelor's and master's degree in tourism education. 🎓
During the day, the city of Samarkand itself was also explored. It is one of the oldest cities in the world, founded around 700 AD, which served as the most important support point of the Silk Road for more than 2000 years.
In 2001, Samarkand was included in the World Heritage List as a city of crossroads of cultures, where the traditions and knowledge of different people meet, which can still be seen and felt at every step. 💛

Travel, as an industry that helps connect people around the world, has a duty to prevent its destructive effect on the environment and tourist destinations. Environmental sustainability is a priority for Central Asia. Switching to sustainable tourism can address multiple challenges including high air pollution, water stress, below-average levels of wastewater treatment, endangered wildlife and forest loss.
