Releasing 6.14.26 || Isn’t time fleeting? There just never seems to be enough of it. No matter how tightly we try to hold it, it always seems to slip quietly through our fingers. The days that once felt endless somehow become cherished memories. Those little moments we thought were ordinary may be the most precious of all. Is that the beauty of life? Not that it lasts forever, but that it doesn’t.

The sunrise that warms our faces for only a moment, the muddy paw prints on the floor, the familiar sound of our best friend’s footsteps trekking beside us on a trail. These little fleeting moments that remind us to be present, to take notice, to cherish them while we can only proves that life is fragile. We are never promised more time, more adventures, or one more walk on those familiar trails beneath the trees.

We remember the dogs who once trekked beside us. Our best friends who matched our pace, explored the trails under the trees, and taught us that joy can be found in the simplest places. Though their paws no longer trek the world beside us, their presence remains woven into every trail, every quiet sunrise, and every adventure that they waddled beside us on. We still feel them in the spaces they once filled. In the familiar urge to glance beside us, expecting to see them there. In the memories that arrive unexpectedly but fills our soul with warmth.

They were never with us long enough. But what a gift it was to have shared even a small part of this fleeting life with them. We here at BFW have created this piece in our signature patchwork style to remind us the importance of slowing down, seeking adventure, and savoring the smell, feel and colors and moments with our best friend. For in the end, life is not measured by how long something lasts, but by how deeply it is loved.

Love is one of the simplest and most powerful things we can offer one another. Love asks us to show up, listen, support, and celebrate each other exactly as we are. At But First, West, we believe being an ally is more than a statement. It’s choosing kindness when it’s easy and when it’s not. It’s standing beside others, amplifying voices that deserve to be heard, and helping create spaces where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and loved.

Our PRIDE Patch Bandana was created as a small reminder that every adventure is better when everyone belongs. Made from our signature patchwork design using rescued fabric, each bandana carries a message of inclusion, community, and love without conditions.

There’s something extraordinary about people who love dogs.

Not because they simply share their lives with them, but because they understand what dogs teach us. Loyalty, adventure, resilience, joy, and the importance of showing up for those we love. That spirit is what has always been at the heart and manifesto of But First, West.

Today, we are incredibly proud to introduce the pack that will be trekking alongside us through the summer and into the fall. Head to our stories to meet the 17 BFW veterans, 1 returning ambassador, 6 new faces, and of course, our fearless CEO, Phyllis. It’s a special moment to see returners and newbies intersect.

Leading our veteran pack into this next adventure are Bear + Blue, Fraser, Aurora + Cash, Kai, Nash, Hugh + Hefner, Cabbie, Josie, Monaco, Rosie, Luca, Blue + Bowser, Ava + Amelia + Aisla, Gregor, Charlie, Moose + Hank and Koda.

Returning to the pack are Elle + Lyla.

And a very special welcome to our newest adventurers: Piper + Scout + Fitz, Benji, Hazel, Hana, Bowie and Luka. We cannot wait for you to experience what makes the BFW community so special.

As our team evolves, we made the choice to reduce the size of our ambassador pack. While that meant fewer spots available, it does not mean fewer people valued. Ambassador applications currently in review || To everyone who applied to be part of our next ambassador team, thank you. Truly. 🤍 Every application and each word written within always means more than we can properly put into words. We are currently taking the time to carefully review each and every application, and once our team has made final decisions, we will be reaching out to selected applicants individually before announcing the new team publicly.

No matter the outcome, we see you, your presence is felt and your love and support of BFW never goes unnoticed. The desire to be part of this community and this pack means everything to us. We once heard someone say flowers are nature’s way of flirting with the soul and that stuck with us. Flowers are bold, expressive and impossible to ignore. They don’t ask permission to bloom; they simply arrive in color, texture, movement, and feeling. That same energy lives in the prints and fabrics we choose. It’s those pieces that feel alive, playful, and deeply personal.

When you choose But First, West, you are adorning your best friend with these very pieces that mirror that spirit … vibrant patterns, soft fabrics, little statements of personality that create a sense of connection between us and them. Like flowers in a garden, each print and thus piece BFW creates carries its own mood and story. Today is a day of honoring our beautiful mamas that embody the traits of strength, resilience and love. You, dog mamas, are the entire reason BFW continues to trek West. The patient ones who stop every ten feet on walks just to let their pup sniff the world.

The gentle ones who whisper “good job” after every little victory.

The prepared ones who always carry treats, p**p bags, wipes, water, and a backup leash. 

The sentimental ones who save puppy collars, baby teeth, or paw prints forever.

The adventurous ones who plan vacations based on whether their dog will love it there too.

The comforting ones who leave the TV on when they have to be away from home.

The proud ones who show strangers photos of their dog like proud parents.

The protective ones who cross the street because another dog “just feels off.”

The sleepy ones who somehow end up with one inch of blanket while their pup takes up the bed.

The nurturing ones who hand-feed their pup when they won’t eat.

The devoted ones who would do absolutely anything to make sure their pup feels safe, loved, and home.

 

You all are everything to them. The way you show up, the hats you wear, the amount you juggle. You do it all, for them.

And while we know today day can be hard and complicated for some who may not have such a relationship with their mother, or perhaps have lost their mother, or are hoping to be mothers and struggling, we am sending you each a bit of love and peace. To those mama’s that have recently lost, our hearts are with you and today, you aren’t alone. 

Sending each of you, moms, so much love today and a huge thank you for supporting this small woman owned business. We are so grateful for each of you.

Let’s get honest. We love seeing who wraps their pup up with a But First, West Patch Bandana and where all these one-of-a-kind creations get to adventure, but there will always be something extra special about watching those connections grow over time.

Alicia + Nash helped us create the original concept for the patch bandana over two years ago, and moments like this feel like full-circle kind of magic. It’s a trip down memory lane to see Nash in our latest patchwork: The Cherry Blossom —> our newest rendition: The Tide —> and their original piece in the very first photo they ever sent us in it. Same heart, same story, just evolving with time. 💛

Then, SWIPE ——> SWIPE to see what still sets our patch bandanas apart. From the very beginning, we’ve saved the smallest pieces of excess fabric from our designs and given them new life, stitching them into something entirely new, entirely intentional. Every square holds a piece of our journey.

When you shop with But First, West, you’re not just supporting a product, you’re part of a bigger story. One that believes we can do better with our waste, and that meaning can be made from what’s left behind.

SPRING IS IN BLOOM! The newest collections of The Tide Bandanas as well as the Cherry Blossom Patch Bandana are now available for purchase on our website. We hope you traveled to our page because something we are offering resonated with you and it’s an item you will keep and cherish for years to come. We here at BFW like to slow down and create beautiful and meaningful pieces … not for quantity but for quality.

Before we opened our shop we created a manifesto that we wanted to live by. Since day one “We believe in connection” has been on our list. True, honest, real connection. Two of our beautiful ambassadors requested Cherry Blossom themed bandanas for the Spring and we are reminiscing on how lucky we feel to have a connection so closely with others that we were allowed the opportunity to bring their vision to life. How did we do? 🌸🌸

When we started making these bandanas, we were curious what Cherry Blossoms symbolize; the fleeting nature of life, mortality, renewal, and the beauty of Spring being upon us again. To us, Cherry blossoms serve as a reminder of the inevitability of change and the importance of interconnectedness. Thank you Chel and Peyton, and everyone that lives in a moment with the creations at BFW for allowing us to share a moment of connections with you.
