Today's post is a controversial one, even for the most erstwhile Akan people. This is not a political post. It is a post about history. The World has now seen that geopolitics is secondary in Merita (i.e., Africa), to religion, and less so, to deep culture. For example, the former Emir of Kano (note the root word "Kan" in Kano), of the Hausa area of Nigeria, along with a team of Sheiks and other Islamic leaders, are the ones currently breaking through in the Niger-Nigeria conflict. The Hausa peoples of Niger and Nigeria (majority peoples in BOTH Niger and Nigeria are Hausa, just as Akan are majority in Ghana and in Côte d'Ivoire) once practiced THE SAME matriarchal / matrilineal Akan culture as their kin in Ghana (Oyoko/Adako; Asona, Aduana, and others), those in Togo (e.g. small groups like Chakosi,etc.), the Soninke (equivalent of Akan Asona) remnant in Guinea, Halpulaar of Senegal, and Zarma/Sara of Niger, also as examples. THE POINT: we in WA today are more connected amongst ourselves than the artificial political barriers of today, created by former colonial masters (c.f. The "partition of Africa" during Berlin conference of 1884) would have us ALL believe.

Today, Mali is overcome by coup d'etat talk and controversy. The ancient leaders of Mali Empire were Akan of Dia.
