Sand-Laden Bulkhead Sinks in Bay of Bengal, 4 Rescued
On July 22, 2026, at approximately 10:00 AM, a sand-laden bulkhead sank in the Bay of Bengal after its engine failed amidst rough seas while en route from Sylhet to Cox's Bazar. Following the sinking, four crew members were left adrift in deep sea waters, located roughly 9.26 kilometres off the coast of Sandwip.
Crew members of a service boat plying the Kumira-Shawndip route later spotted the four individuals floating in the sea and promptly rescued them. The survivors have since been brought to Sandwip for medical attention and further care.
