Wanna join an early-stage startup as an employee? A startup will often not offer high salaries but will give stock options to their employees. Or in France, the equivalent, called BSPCE.

If the startup is successful, you will be able to exercise these stock-options later when the startup is acquired or goes on IPO. Then you usually earn a higher amount (after tax) than your salary, even millions if your company becomes a unicorn. The goal for the startup is to attract, motivate and retain key talents, especially experienced executives & experts. Most startups give stock-options to all employees, even junior ones.

At seed level, the amount of equity you’ll be given will depend on how senior you are when you join. Usually, you start getting your stock-options / BSPCE after 1 year of presence (cliff), and it usually takes around 4 years to get all agreed % (vesting).

In Europe, 1%-1.5% are usually given for non-founder C-suite roles, 0.5 % for senior VP roles and from then on it comes down to the profile of the candidate and their experience. A high-profile junior with skills in demand (AI etc) could get around 0,1%-0,2% at early stage.

Early-stage startup employees are often given equity in the business when they join. But how much should you expect to be offered?

Audius is a blockchain powered music streaming service that is similar to Soundcloud or Spotify. However, Audius is able to provide more value to musicians via its blockchain-based tools which can help them engage and monetise their audiences.
The Audius network will keep 10% of revenues to help support itself and the rightsholders (songwriters etc) will keep 90%. This is a much higher share compared to current leading music streaming platforms.

Now neural networks can learn visual concepts from natural language supervision. These models can be used to generate images from text. This Prompt Art was first democratized by OpenAI (DALL-E 2) then followed by MidJourney, Stability.AI (Stable Diffusion), Google Imagen and French startup Selas Studio.

These text-to-image generators were trained on billions of annotated images, particularly artistic images. The images generated by such models not only reproduce the training set but also create new subjects and aesthetics, acting as imagination amplifiers. These new tools will not replace artists but augment digital creators.
