The Posecco tour was very good. We had a local host (Sebastian) who explained the region well before we visited a small wine cellar high up the hill in the family vineyard. All the work is done by hand as the hills are too steep for tractors. They are allowed to grow up to 12 tonne per hectare. The wines are interesting as the traditional method Prosecco has the lees stay in the bottle and it is cloudy when poured in the glass. Has a nice flavour and is normally 0 sugar. More producers are now producing with the Charmat method as they have much more control of the winemaker process. It has the second ferment done in an autoclave tank and they can determine the level of sweetness they want in the finished wine. We preferred the Brut style with 6 gram sugar which is how we make our PJs Sparkling Chardonnay. Some of the Processco is up to 40 gram of sugar. The wine is to be drunk in 1 - 2 years it doesn't age well and is too sweet for us.
Our 2nd stop for the day was very informative observing the winery and learning about the process they use. Processco is very popular at the moment and ruling has changed so it will only be able to be named Processco if it is grown in the region of Processco just like Champagne is only allowed from Champagne. It is extremely interesting for us to learn compare and ensure we are doing our best at Angas Plains Wines as winelovers travel the world to enjoy different wines and the authenticity of them and the people that produce them.
