Award-Winning Documentary “NECTARBALL: The Story of Cannabis” Showcases Rare Archival Footage from the Library of New & Unique Videos.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Veteran filmmakers Patty Mooney and Mark Schulze of New & Unique Videos have premiered the award-winning documentary “NECTARBALL: The Story of Cannabis” in their hometown, San Diego, an 82-minute feature that explores the history, science, culture, and medicinal evolution of cannabis through voices distilled from more than 165 interviewees around the world.
Filmed over seven years across multiple continents, the documentary combines contemporary interviews with rare archival footage drawn from the extensive library of New & Unique Videos, San Diego’s pioneering producer and distributor of educational and special-interest programming since the 1980s.
The film features cannabis luminaries including Tommy Chong, Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, Steve DeAngelo, Ed Rosenthal, John Salley, Danny Danko, Nurse Heather Sobel, RN, and many others who share personal insights into cannabis medicine, prohibition, advocacy, cultivation, and the plant’s expanding role in wellness and society.
“NECTARBALL is ultimately about freedom, healing, and truth,” says co-producer and writer Patty Mooney. “By incorporating archival footage from our library, we were able to connect the modern cannabis movement to decades of history, activism, and cultural change.”
Director of Photography and Co-Producer, Mark Schulze adds, “We’ve spent over four decades documenting extraordinary people and overlooked stories." The New & Unique Videos stock footage archive gave us the opportunity to visually trace the evolution of cannabis culture from underground stigma to global conversation.”
The documentary has received multiple awards and recognition on the festival circuit, including honors from the New York Movie Awards and Paris Film Awards.
