So, you've decided to take advantage of seasonal deals and replace an appliance. Here are some smart consumer steps to ensure the transition goes smoothly for you and that future repairs will be covered under the manufacturer warranty as long as possible.
* Unpack and inspect: look for scratches, dents, ensure all parts are there.
* Register your appliance!
* Read the manual: the manufacturer's instructions for how to operate your appliance can make a difference in how it performs. For example, there really are proper ways to load a dishwasher; your manual will tell you how to maximize performance.
* Proper installation: clean, allow space for ventilation and connections, level the appliance. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation.
* Run initial cycles and adjust settings - your manual will tell you to run some discard cycles to clear out any residue or dust from the manufacturing process. This is especially important for ice makers and water dispensers. Set temperatures for fridges and freezers, check the settings on ovens (Fahrenheit versus Celsius).
* Run through multiple settings to check functionality. If one of your features isn't working, it's better to figure it out sooner rather than later.
* File your proof of purchase in a safe space or in your electronic files.
* Many manufacturers' warranties cover installation and customer instruction, but it's not for a long period.
