What counts as “innovation” under MVP Ventures?
Innovation is a core assessment criterion. Under this program, innovation means your product must be:
• New or meaningfully different from current market options
• Addressing a genuine problem backed by credible evidence
• Offering a distinct competitive advantage, technology, process, model, or capability
• Supporting priority innovation areas such as AI, digital transformation, clean technologies, advanced manufacturing, and supply chain resilience
• Positioned to advance along the commercialisation pathway, often TRL 4 to 7
Assessors look for clarity around why this matters, who needs it, and why now.
The 3 Industry Policy Missions that guide assessment
MVP Ventures directly supports the NSW Government’s Industry Policy and Innovation Blueprint 2035. Applications are assessed in the context of how well they align with at least one of the following state missions:
1. Housing
Innovation that improves affordability, availability, or construction efficiency. Examples include new building materials, modular solutions, digital planning or compliance tools, or technologies that accelerate delivery.
2. Net Zero and Energy Transition
Solutions that support emissions reduction, clean energy adoption, circularity, or resource efficiency. Examples include green tech, AI-enabled energy optimisation, waste innovation, low-carbon manufacturing processes.
3. Local Manufacturing and Supply Chain Resilience
Products that enhance NSW’s manufacturing capability, productivity, or sovereign supply chain security. Examples include advanced manufacturing tools, automation, robotics, high-value prototyping, new materials, digital manufacturing technologies.
Projects that clearly advance one or more of these missions often score more competitively.
