1 in 5 customers think differently.
If your customer experience only works for the “average” person, you could be unintentionally excluding millions of people — and losing loyal customers because of it.
Neurodiverse-friendly businesses create experiences that are clearer, calmer, more accessible, and more welcoming for everyone. The result? Better customer trust, stronger loyalty, and a brand people genuinely want to come back to.
Inclusion isn’t just good practice, it’s good business. 💙

Nobody thinks they're the person who runs out of time.

That's the trap.

We all assume there's a later. A better moment. A version of next week where everything lines up and we finally start.

But time doesn't work that way. It moves at the same pace whether you're ready or not.

The things that matter to you deserve your attention now. Not when it's convenient. Not when the conditions are perfect. Now.

Start the thing. Have the conversation. Make the move.

Later is not a strategy.

For some people, walking into a busy hairdressers isn’t “just an appointment.”

It can feel like stepping onto a stage where every eye is suddenly on you.

The noise feels louder.

The mirrors feel exposing.

Wondering where to stand, what to say, whether you look awkward, whether people are judging you!

Heart racing while trying to act “normal.”

Rehearsing simple conversations in your head.

Overthinking where to put your bag, how to sit, when to speak.

Choosing a seat can feel overwhelming!

And while others may see someone quietly waiting for a haircut …

Inside there can be panic, self-doubt, and exhaustion!

Social anxiety is more than shyness!

It’s the constant fear of being judged, embarrassed, or getting something wrong in everyday situations that other people might never think twice about!

Business owners who've NEVER experienced social anxiety …

You never know the battle someone is fighting internally just to show up!

Sometimes the bravest thing a person with social anxiety does is walk through the door at all!

Some people experience Saturdays in town as exciting and social.
Others experience them as noise, pressure, sensory overload, anxiety, exhaustion, and survival mode all at once.
And for many neurodivergent people or people with social anxiety, avoiding it isn’t always an option when you work Monday to Friday and weekends are the only time life admin gets done.
A crowded shopping street might look ordinary from the outside.
Internally, it can feel like managing panic, overstimulation, masking, and recovery at the same time.
A little patience and understanding in public spaces goes further than people realise.

There are people out there who want what you're selling but the experience FEELS difficult!

It FEELS like this gif!

Awkward
Uncomfortable
Embarrassing

Becoming social anxiety makes you self conscious
Makes you feel under the spotlight

The good news?
You can make small changes to your business that will make choosing you feel easier …

feel … more comfortable!

As business owners …

We often focus so much on the product, the end result …

That we're not looking at …

The customer experience …

How it feels …
How EASY it is to navigate …
How much does it feel like this business understands me …

Do they know …

I struggle with phone calls
Walking in somewhere feels overwhelming
I overthink what will happen when I get there? …

Sometimes soooo much that I'll end up NOT actually going!

Not getting what I need!

Just coz it feels too fu***ng difficult!
That it doesn't actually feel worth it!

By learning where your most sensitive customer is coming from
The barriers to entry your business UNKNOWINGLY has in place …

You can begin to take them down …

So your business starts to feel to your customer …

MORE like a hug, a soft place to land!

And LESS like a slap in the face!

✨ Not everyone experiences your business the same way ...

For some people, making a phone call feels overwhelming ...

For some, bright lights and noise can feel exhausting!

For some, replying to messages, arriving on time, or asking for help can feel genuinely difficult.

That doesn’t make them rude, lazy, difficult, or “too sensitive!"

Sometimes it’s anxiety.
Sometimes it’s trauma.
Sometimes it’s neurodiversity.
Sometimes it’s someone doing their absolute best while struggling quietly.

This is why compassionate, trauma-aware and neurodiversity-aware businesses matter 🤍
Because people remember how you made them feel.
The Safe Space Pledge (™) exists to help create businesses where people feel understood: not judged 🌱

Writing
Breaking the cycle of abuse isn’t just about individuals “doing the work”…
It’s about what we allow, what we teach, and what we support as a society.
So many people are out here trying to heal…
While raising children, navigating relationships, and managing life—
Without ever being shown what healthy actually looks like.
And then we wonder why patterns repeat.
We need to normalise:
– Asking for help
– Learning emotional skills (as adults AND children)
– Supporting parents instead of judging them
– Giving young boys safe, healthy role models
– Talking about the hard stuff instead of avoiding it
Because abuse doesn’t continue through generations by accident…
It continues through silence, lack of support, and lack of awareness.
And the opposite is also true:
Cycles break through honesty, education, and compassion.
This isn’t about blame.
It’s about creating a world where fewer people have to heal from their childhood.
What do you think is the biggest thing that needs to change? 💭
