Last night the Brackendowns CPF hosted the July All Sector meeting for all residents living in Meyersdal, Brackenhurst, Brackendowns, Albertsdal, Mayberry Park, Alrode and Thinasonke.
All prepared seating was full but it remains disapointing that so few residents show concern over the current rate of crime or are willing to give up a few hours of their time to attend or assist.
The acting Station Commander Lt Col Van der Westhuizen gave a very informative breakdown of the current status of the station, the crime situation and what is being done to address issues and feedback on recent events. The Brackendowns CPF thanks her for her dedication and willingness to tackle the problems head on, there is a number of Bracken SAPS members that are extremely dedicated, work 7 days a week and are doing the work of multiple members and we would like to recognise their committement to the community and the dangers they face in their daily operations.
Superintendant Neville Taylor addressed the community regarding speeding and traffic infractions as well as the challenges they are facing with regards to enforcing bylaws like illegal sqautters, hawkers, beggars and the recyclers.
There are daily complaints against beggars at intersections from the majority of the commnunity yet there are others that assist in their return and as such it is a constant cycle and wastage of expensive resources.
Our local secutirity companies ADT, React 24 Security, Fox Security all attended and gave feedback. Protective Force also gave thanks and feedback.
The Brackendowns CPF EXCO each gave feedback on their areas and the management of the volunteer service.
The current communication problems and potential solutions were discusssed as well as requests for sponsorship.
Patrollers currently purchase their own uniforms and equipment like torches, medical kits bullet proof vests and drive out large amounts of fuel on patrols.
We have a solution where corporates can get invovled in sponsorships in lieue of marketing to a much greater value.
Any of the EXCO members can be contacted for more information on the opportunity.
There was also a welcome visit from the Thinasonke patrollers who also dedicate much of their time to protect their neighbourhoods.
There is still a large requirement to tighten up community communication channels and street groups.
We are constantly working on ways to improve the safety of the community like the introduction of the Sound and Safe application that offers a direct communication path to the CPF as well as your next of kin in an emergency.
We look forward to next month and meeting more community members.
