77 vehicles a day. That's how many motor vehicles and motorcycles were reported stolen across South Africa during the first three months of 2026.

And KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 1,279 of those thefts.

The good news is that vehicle theft was actually down compared with the same period last year, as were carjackings.

But 6,945 stolen vehicles in three months is still a number worth paying attention to.

And this is where the right security measures can make a difference: from vehicle tracking and recovery services to having a response team you can actually reach when something goes wrong.

We see the reality of vehicle crime on the ground, everyday. That's why prevention, early alerts, and a fast response is all that matters.

If something doesn't feel right and you think you're being followed, here are four things to do:

1️⃣ Don't drive home.
You don't want to lead someone you suspect is following you straight to your home or family.

2️⃣ Keep moving and stay aware.
Avoid stopping on a quiet road or getting out of your vehicle to confront the other driver.

3️⃣ Head somewhere safe and busy.
A police station, security office, petrol station or another well-populated location is a better option than pulling over.

4️⃣ Call for help.
If you believe you're being followed, contact someone who can assist while you make your way to safety. If you're an ET client, use your panic service or contact our control room.

Sometimes there's an innocent explanation. Sometimes there isn't. Either way, trust your instincts and always put your safety first.

Mxolisi made a full recovery after his shooting incident.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERY:

WEDNESDAY 26 AUGUST 2026

KWA MAKUTHA - DURBAN

Around 3:30am this morning our Tactical Response Team was activated by the Bidtrack Control Centre for a stolen vehicle that was taken on the Bluff.

A Toyota Cross was stolen from the Bluff with the vehicle's GPS beacon indicating it just entered the Kwa Makutha area.

Our TRT managed to safely secure and recover the vehicle under 15min.

Other security providers arrived to assist.

Our ET armed response units from the Bluff, managed to get spare keys to the team to take the vehicle to Kwa Makhutha SAPS for processing.

This incident again shows, how important it is to have your vehicle fitted with the best tracking devices available, with a reliable quick tracking ground force.
