The Atlantis Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) joined the uYilo E-Mobility Summit, represented by our Commercial Executive Asanda Vos. The Summit was held at the Nelson Mandela University Ocean Science Campus in Gqeberha from 26 to 27 August 2026. Under the theme, "Accelerating Electric Mobility Implementation in South Africa: From Innovation to Industrial Participation," the summit brought together leaders from industry, government, academia, and the innovation ecosystem to explore practical pathways for advancing South Africa’s electric mobility sector.

The Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Dr Nomalungelo Gina addressed the gathering and emphasised the need to accelerate the transition to electric mobility, development smart sustainable transport infrastructure. Day 2 featured insightful keynote presentations, engaging panel discussions, and valuable networking opportunities, fostering meaningful conversations around innovation, collaboration, and the future of sustainable transport in South Africa

Our CEO, Matt Cullinan, joined the panel discussion, Case Examples of Green Industrial Mechanisms and Related Policy Levers, hosted by Enzi Ijayo Africa Initiative, the African Future Policies Hub and Southern Transitions as part of the Green Industrial Policy in Southern Africa workshop in Cape Town. During the session, Matt shared insights on SEZs and Green Industrial Action in South Africa, highlighting the role that Special Economic Zones can play in advancing green industrialisation and supporting sustainable economic development across the region.

The discussion brought together regional experts exploring pathways towards a green economy, including perspectives on e-mobility in Kenya and green hydrogen development in Namibia. Matt reflected on the opportunities and challenges facing South African SEZs, while also considering how the SEZ model could potentially be adapted to support green industrialisation efforts in other SADC countries.

This week, our CEO, Matthew Cullinan, participated in the SIDSSA 2026 panel discussion, "Creating Industrial Cities Through Infrastructure Investment," held as part of the Mayoral Leadership Exchange: Building Africa’s Manufacturing and Industrial Future Through Integrated Infrastructure. The session explored how integrated infrastructure can create the conditions for manufacturing growth, industrial competitiveness, and increased investment across African cities.

The discussion highlighted the importance of aligning transport, energy, water, digital connectivity, and logistics infrastructure with industrial development objectives. Panelists shared practical insights on developing industrial parks, Special Economic Zones, logistics hubs, and resilient infrastructure systems that can strengthen regional value chains, attract private investment, and support sustainable economic growth across the continent.
