Our Commercial Executive and Integrated Ecosystems Executive, recently participated in the National Cleaner Production Centre of South Africa Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme Finance Workshop at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) ICC.

The workshop brought together industrial parks, finance institutions, and technical experts to address one of the key barriers to sustainable industrial development; access to finance for green projects. Discussions highlighted that while many industrial parks already have viable sustainability initiatives across energy, water, and circular economy practices, achieving stronger project bankability, clear business cases, and collaboration among stakeholders are essential to unlock investment.

The session also provided valuable insights into financing opportunities from the IFC - International Finance Corporation and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), as well as blended finance approaches to reduce risk and improve project viability. A visit to the Highveld Industrial Park further showcased practical sustainability and resource recovery initiatives in action.

On behalf of the Atlantis Special Economic Zone Company SOC Ltd (ASEZCo), we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and the broader Atlantis community on the passing of Michael Marote as he is laid to rest on 30 May 2026.

Mr. Marote was a deeply respected community leader whose vital contribution to the establishment and development of the Atlantis Special Economic Zone will remain an important part of the ASEZ story. During the formative stages of the Atlantis SEZ application process, he played an instrumental role in advocating for meaningful community participation and ensuring that the people of Atlantis had a powerful voice in shaping their own economic future.

As one of the founding contributors to the establishment of the Atlantis Community Stakeholder Network and as its business sector representative and Chairperson from 2019 until 2023, Mr. Marote was pivotal in bridging the gap between the local community and ASEZCo. His leadership and commitment to inclusive development fostered constructive dialogue and strategic partnerships, laying pathways for local participation in the infrastructure development projects linked to the SEZ.

He believed that the success of the Atlantis SEZ must translate into opportunities for the broader community. Through his participation and guidance, he helped foster a spirit of partnership that continues to shape ASEZCo’s approach to stakeholder engagement and social inclusion today.
ASEZCo acknowledges and honours the role Mr. Marote played during a critical period in our organisation's history. His contribution formed part of the foundation upon which ongoing community participation and collaboration stands.

As we reflect on his life and legacy, we are reminded that sustainable development is driven by individuals who dedicate themselves to the collective good of their communities. Michael Marote was one such individual.
May his legacy continue to inspire unity, participation, and shared progress for the people of Atlantis.

This past week, the Atlantis SEZ was honoured to host a delegation from Enlit Africa 2026 for a site visit. The engagement showcased our green manufacturing ecosystem in action, beginning with a presentation at our offices, followed by guided tours of the Foundries Solar Plant and Modulêr Electrical Assemblies. These visits offered a firsthand look at how sustainability, innovation, and local industrial are driving the future of the green economy.

A sincere thank you to the teams at Modulêr Electrical Assemblies and Daimler Truck AG Atlantis Foundries for their invaluable support and collaboration in making the visit a success.

The Atlantis Special Economic Zone proudly exhibited at Enlit Africa 2026 from 19 to 21 May 2026, alongside our valued partners, Wesgro and the City of Cape Town. A significant highlight this year was sharing our platform with two of our tenants, Mint & Honey and Modulêr Electrical Assemblies. Their participation brought added depth to our exhibition, demonstrating the innovation and diversity within the ASEZ ecosystem and reinforcing the strength of our growing green economy hub.

The event served as a powerful platform to engage with industry stakeholders, showcase the vast opportunities within the Atlantis Special Economic Zone, and contribute to pivotal conversations around the future of energy in Africa. We engaged with a wide range of partners, investors, and industry leaders, and these interactions highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing sustainable industrial development and accelerating the transition to cleaner energy solutions.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who visited our stand. Enlit Africa remains an important space for building relationships, sharing insights, and positioning the Western Cape and ASEZ as a leading destination for green investment.

This week at Enlit Africa 2026, the Atlantis Special Economic Zone's Sustainable Infrastructure and Zone Operations Specialist, Michael Pienaar, presented on strengthening the SEZ’s water resilience and long-term competitiveness. His insights drew directly on Water Stewardship principles established by NatuReS and GIZ through the Water Security Africa platform.

The presentation underscored the importance of adopting a structured, technical approach to water resource management within industrial hubs. This approach is guided by four key steps: situational analysis, reduction, augmentation, and reuse and recycling. Through practical examples, Michael demonstrated how this framework is being actively applied in the ongoing development and operations of the Atlantis SEZ.

As water security continues to shape the future of industrial development, engagements like these reinforce Atlantis SEZ’s commitment to resilience, innovation, and responsible resource management in support of a competitive and sustainable economic zone.
