Police in Ficksburg, Free State, have launched a high-priority manhunt for two suspects following a fatal shooting and robbery that occurred in the Meqheleng Township.
On Thursday evening, 07 May 2026, at approximately 20:30, members attached to the Ficksburg Community Service Centre (CSC) received a report of a shooting incident at a tuckshop in Katlehong, Meqheleng.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a 39-year-old foreign national male with gunshot wounds to the back of the head and his left arm. Emergency medical services were on the scene, and paramedics tragically certify the victim deceased.
Preliminary reports indicated that the deceased had just arrived from his business premises in Zone 8 to collect his brother when he was allegedly approached by two males who engaged him in a brief quarrel. During the confrontation, a gunshot was heard, and the victim collapsed. The two suspects then fled the scene in the victim's vehicle, a white Toyota Camry.
A tactical manhunt was immediately activated. Within minutes, members of the Ficksburg Crime Prevention Unit successfully located the hijacked vehicle. The Toyota Camry was found abandoned near the Melspruit Dam in Ficksburg with its headlights still switched on.
Ficksburg Police are currently investigating cases of murder and robbery with a firearm. While the vehicle has been recovered, the suspects remain at large. The manhunt continues as detectives pursue all available leads.
