By Nicolase Lesapo (Free State World)
In a heartwarming address at the Lemo Fest SMMES EXPO Event, Freddie Kenney, a successful entrepreneur and Chairman of the Kenworth Group delivered a powerful message of encouragement to budding entrepreneurs. With an inspiring personal story, he urged them never to lose hope in their business ventures.
Freddie Kenney reminisced about his humble beginnings, sharing that his journey started when his mother gave him a bag of oranges to sell at school. It was this act that ignited his entrepreneurial spirit. During his secondary school years, he made a bold decision to quit school to focus on selling oranges and apples.
One of his key messages to aspiring entrepreneurs was the importance of education. Kenney emphasized that a proper education is the foundation for success in business. He highlighted three crucial qualities that can drive success in entrepreneurship: simplicity, respect, and discipline.
Kenney passionately stated, “What makes an entrepreneur is having guts.” He urged entrepreneurs to persevere in the face of challenges, emphasizing the need for solidarity within the business community. He noted that one of the hindrances to the growth of black-owned businesses is a lack of support for one another.
As a demonstration of his commitment to the community, Freddie Kenney announced his plans to maintain Doctor Bulchoir Street with Christmas trees and Moshoeshoe Road, showcasing Lemo Mall’s investment back into the community.
In a generous gesture, Kenney revealed that the profits generated from Lemo Fest would be donated to old-age homes and used to purchase sanitary pads for those in need. He also hinted at an exciting event for the future, the Lemo Cup Soccer Competition, set to take place next year.
Freddie Kenney’s motivational words resonated deeply with the audience at the Lemo Fest SMMES EXPO Event, leaving entrepreneurs inspired and motivated to pursue their business dreams with determination and dedication.
