💡 Did you know? 💡
You can manually adjust the amount under code 4020 on the ITR12 form and ensure that it accurately reflects medical expenses paid by the taxpayer.
❓Why is this important?
Medical aid tax certificates show expenses that medical aid did not cover under source code 4020. You may find that the total shown includes expenses not paid by the medical aid but reimbursed or paid by a separate gap cover. As these expenses were not paid by the taxpayer, they should be excluded under code 4020 on the income tax return.
Only medical expenses supported by proof of payment by the taxpayer should be included under code 4020.
