Dear Gentle Reader
May you please share my company stories. “What About the Boys” Project: Empowering Young Men in Reiger Park
In 2024, the “What About the Boys” ministerial project in South Africa has made significant strides in youth development, with over 200 boys benefiting from its initiatives. This groundbreaking program, aimed at addressing the challenges faced by young men in the country, has gained momentum through the active participation of community-based forums and local schools.
UGIS has played a pivotal role in ensuring the project reaches those who need it most. Through targeted engagement, UGIS facilitated the inclusion of Oos Rand Secondary School and Reiger Park Technical High School, providing students with access to the program’s resources, mentorship, and developmental activities.
A key highlight of the project has been the involvement of Mr. Yershen Pillay, CEO of CHIETA, who has served as a valuable resource, sharing insights, guidance, and inspiration with the young participants. His involvement has helped bridge the gap between educational institutions and practical career guidance, offering the boys a clearer perspective on their future opportunities.
By collaborating with schools, local communities, and strategic partners, the “What About the Boys” project has fostered a nurturing environment where young men can develop their skills, build confidence, and gain access to mentorship that is often lacking.
The success of the program in 2024 demonstrates the impact of community-driven initiatives and the importance of collaborative efforts between government, private sector leaders, and civil society. UGIS remains committed to supporting programs like this, ensuring that young men in Reiger Park and beyond are empowered to reach their full potential.
