Fire safety is one of the most important decisions and considerations in any building design and management, but also one of the most crucial area’s that is unfortunately overlooked.
Below are some fire safety measures to consider when building and new office block, factory, old age home or block of flats.
1. The first rule of fire safety is to provide adequate means of escape. Can You?
2.Are all pathways clearly marked to indicate exit doors and routes, and do you comply with the maximum distance a person must travel to access these fore exits?
3. Do you have means of fire and or heat detection installed as per regulation as the first few minutes of any fire is very important.
4. Do you maintain and check your smoke suppression systems regularly? Remember, fire extinguishers are only useful if they work.
5. Are you conducting regular fire drills to prevent panic during an emergency?
6. Are you using flame-retardant materials for interior design?
7. Does the fire department have a clear and accessible path into your property, offices and or workshop areas?
8. Can the emergency services access your building plans quickly upon arrival?
9. Get a third party to assess your Fire Risks and Safety on a regular basis.
10. Do you comply with the National Building Code?
