I'm not ashamed of my job. It’s honest work. I didn’t wait for someone to hand me a fancy desk job or a title with "manager" in it. I took what I could get, and I made it work.

But these youngsters today? Yoh! They want soft life immediately. Everyone wants to be an influencer, or drive a German car by 25, but ask them to push a trolley, wash a car, or sell tomatoes on the corner and suddenly it's "beneath them." They say "foreigners are taking our jobs," but let me ask this: which jobs, exactly? Because those brothers from Malawi, Somalia, or Pakistan? They’re fixing shoes, running spaza shops, cutting hair, even pushing wheelbarrows and doing recycling. Those are the jobs we locals walk past like we're allergic to them.

And don’t get me started on starting businesses. They want to be “bosses,” yes — but only if the business comes with a Range Rover by December. They don’t want to build from scratch. The Pakistanis open a tuck shop with almost nothing and sleep in the same space where they work. But our own boys will ask for capital to start a “luxury sneaker brand” with zero customers and no plan.

We need to change this entitlement mindset. Work is work, finish en klaar. Nobody owes you a soft life. You earn it. And if you won’t take the jobs that are available, don’t be shocked when someone else does.

You don’t have to love the job — just start somewhere. There’s dignity in every kind of work, even standing in a parking lot, saying “Sharp, I’ll watch it for you, madam.”
