Here the boutique Black Oystercatcher Wines are made from the intensely fruity grapes, formed in Cape Agulhas’ extreme growing conditions. And having farmed at Cape Agulhas for generations, we, the Human family, know these conditions well. We use the constant coastal winds, our marginal soils and the unique geology to grow our small compact berries. The result? Top quality cool climate wines with penetrating, fruit flavours and a distinctive minerality.

🍷 Aged to perfection…

Our Blanc Fumé 2019 was just included in the Decanter Wine Tastings & Club Wine Diary – where it received a stellar 𝟵𝟲/𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴!

Sommelier Jaco Meyer writes:

“This is a refined and well-structured Sauvignon Blanc that will reward some ageing over the next 5 to 8 years, but can certainly be enjoyed now. It should be served cold and will pair particularly well with white fish or smoked chicken.”

Today is – a celebration of the expertise and discerning taste of professional wine specialists across the globe. 🍷

Jeanette explains why sommeliers matter more than ever:

“The days are long gone when consumers simply picked up a case of wine on discount. International trends show that wine drinkers show a preference for quality over quantity. This means that consumers are much more selective with the wine they decide to buy.

“The knowledge and judgement of skilled sommeliers are already revered in the wine industry, but I believe their expertise will become increasingly sought after by the general public as well. Consumers are already buying more wine directly from sommeliers, seeking out their input to make an informed choice. Going forward, the valued opinion of a good sommelier will matter more than ever – to winemakers and wine drinkers alike.”

From the cool tip of Africa to Hong Kong 🌏🍷

This week, Jeanette van der Westhuizen and Matylda Human from Black Oystercatcher Wines joined forces with Denzel Swarts of Zoetendal Vineyards and River Estate at Vinexpo Asia, representing the unique wines and stories of the Agulhas Wine Triangle on an international stage.

Through the partnership between Black Oystercatcher and Zoetendal, this collaboration is hitting the world stage to share the character of our cool-climate vineyards, the people behind them and this remarkable corner of the Cape.

We’re proud to see all our wines represented in Hong Kong this week.

Meet 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 – our representative in 𝗞𝘄𝗮𝗭𝘂𝗹𝘂-𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹, and a true connoisseur of small-batch wines 🍷

Matt has been a agent for more than a decade, bringing valuable experience to our team. He says, “The best part of my job is ⁠getting to open people’s minds with niche wines from unique locations.”

Over the years building relationships with clients, Matt has learned many lessons, including the value of determination and the fulfillment earned from a job well done. This is reflected in his personal motto: “It’s only a sale once the money is in the bank!” His responsibilities include ⁠stock management, organising client tastings and events, and calling on retail and restaurant clients for orders, sales and listings.

When not hard at work, Matt enjoys unwinding with a glass of wine. The bold 𝗦𝘄𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗲 is his personal favourite from our catalogue.
