CCMA suspends operations in Gauteng and KZN due to recent unrest

Due to the violent social unrest and riots which have erupted in the KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng Provinces in the past few days, please be advised that CCMA’s operations in these two (2) provinces have been affected. The duration of the suspension will be determined based on the assessments of the situation on the ground. Unfortunately, the CCMA case roll will be negatively impacted. URGENT NOTICE
SUBJECT: TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF CCMA OPERATIONS IN THE KWAZULU NATAL AND GAUTENG PROVINCIAL OFFICES DUE TO SOCIAL UNREST AND RIOTS
Due to the violent social unrest and riots which have erupted in the KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng Provinces in the past few days, please be advised that CCMA’s operations in these two (2) provinces have been affected. The duration of the suspension will be determined based on the assessments of the situation on the ground. Unfortunately, the CCMA case roll will be negatively impacted. In this regard, please be advised of the following:
Conciliations and con/arbs:
• Matters scheduled for virtual hearings will proceed on the virtual platform.
• For those matters that cannot be conducted virtually, parties are advised that they may be contacted for the conciliation to be conducted telephonically alternatively. Should this not be possible, parties will be approached by the CCMA to agree to an extension within the 30 - day timeline.
• Should there be no agreement to an extension and the matter cannot be conducted telephonically, a 30 - day certificate will be issued.
Arbitrations:
• Matters scheduled for virtual hearings will proceed on the virtual platforms.
• For matters which cannot be conducted virtually, matters will be postponed/removed from the case roll and rescheduled for a new date.
Whilst the case roll is affected, Users may still make referrals and applications using the CCMA’s digital case referral and application platform, accessible via the CCMA website, page and directly via this link https://cmsonline.ccma.org.za alternatively Users can download the CCMA mobile application; the CCMAConnect. Users can also send case-related queries or refer disputes by sending an email to: [email protected] The CCMA will work diligently to attend to all matters impacted by this period.
The CCMA will reassess the situation and advise CCMA Users accordingly. The safety of CCMA employees and its Users remains a priority during this time.
