DID YOU KNOW it is a requirement of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act for an employer to provide an employee with written particulars of employment. Amongst other important information, the written particulars of employment should include a job description, information relating to how much and when the employee will be paid, leave entitlements, amongst other vital information the employee will need in respect of the employment relationship. While the provision of a ‘payslip’ does not apply to employers who employ fewer than five employees or where an employee works less than 24 hours per month for the same employer, it is still advisable for such information to be given to the employee in writing. For more read CCMA information sheet on Written Particulars of Employment.
