The history of the farm dates back to 1890, when it was bought by the Nel family. The present owners and cellarmasters are brothers Boets (who qualified as a Cape Wine Master in 1997) and Stroebel Nel. Christoff de Wet was appointed as winemaker in October 2019. De Krans Wines is also known for their innovation and produces very interesting wines from unusual grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Verdelho. In addition, De Krans Wines produces an impressive range of excellent value wines from classic grape varieties. In 2012, De Krans Wines extended their range when they first produced the now popular Premium White Moscato Perlé, followed by the Premium Red Moscato Perlé in 2017. The latest edition to this range, the Premium Rosé Moscato was just released in March 2021. The Alcohol-Free Muscat Nectar Sparkling was also released in March 2020. De Krans Wines is a family friendly destination on the popular Route 62. Visit the tasting room where our entire range is available for tasting or stock up on some local products from our De Krans Deli. Enjoy the hospitality of our De Krans Bistro where you have the choice to sit outside under the vines. You can also enjoy a vineyard walk, play some outside chess or relax while your children enjoy the play gym. Be sure to visit us for our traditional fruit picking at De Krans in February (Hanepoot) and November (Apricots) – a fun-filled activity not to be missed. De Krans achieved excellent results in the 2026 SA Wine Report by Tim Atkin (MW). We are excited to share that not only our port-style wine received great results, but also two white wines achieved fantastic scores. Here are our top results:

De Krans Cape Vintage Reserve 2015 - 94 points
De Krans Cape Tawny Limited Release NV - 93 points
De Krans Tritonia Verdelho 2025 - 90 points

The popular Garden Route Sauvignon Blanc 2026 also scored a fantastic 91 points. This wine is part of the Garden Route Range, also consisting of a Shiraz, with the grapes grown in the Upper Langkloof and the wine produced at De Krans.

*NEW RELEASE* We are excited to launch the 2026 vintage of the De Krans Pinotage Rosé (Dry). A few hours of skin contact results in a light, blush pink colour. Produced using 100% Pinotage grapes, this wine is a beautiful balance of fruit and acidity, with delicious flavours of strawberries, turkish delight and candyfloss.

We are kicking off the weekend with some good news! The Garden Route Sauvignon Blanc 2026 was crowned the best Sauvignon Blanc and Champion White Wine at the 2026 Klein Karoo Young Wine Show this week. Produced at De Krans by winemaker Christoff de Wet, the grapes come from the cool climate Upper Langkloof area, close to the foothills of the Outeniqua mountains near Herold - 600 meters above sea level. The wine has beautiful flavours of green pepper, tropical fruit and fynbos on the nose, with a mineral flint finish and balanced acidity.

We are excited to share that our Cape Vintage Reserve 2021 was selected as the National Winner and Best Port-style Wine at the 2026 SA Terroir Awards yesterday.

The 2021 vintage was one of those years which every producer hopes for. Cooler summer conditions allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, developing incredible concentration while retaining freshness. Naturally smaller berries resulted in deeper colour, rich fruit flavour and excellent structure and balance - everything you could ask for when crafting a Cape Vintage Reserve port-style wine. Looking back, it was truly a special harvest that we are proud to share in a bottle today.
