KWAZULU-NATAL HOSTS YOUTH TECH RISE BOOTCAMP AND YOUTH DIGITAL MEDIA AND FILM INDABA TO EMPOWER YOUNG INNOVATORS

The Deputy Minister of Department of Communications & Digital Technologies., Mr. Mondli Gungubele (MP), together with the Mayor of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality, Councillor Mduduzi Myeza, will lead the Youth Digital Media and Film Indaba in collaboration with the Mkhambathini Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal.


The Indaba forms part of the government's ongoing efforts to empower young people by creating opportunities within the digital media, film, and creative industries. The event will bring together young digital creatives, government representatives, industry leaders, filmmakers, digital content creators, entrepreneurs, educators, and youth stakeholders to discuss innovation, skills development, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital economy.

The Indaba will include networking opportunities and engagements aimed at equipping young people with practical knowledge and insights into careers and business opportunities in digital media and film.


The programme will be preceded by a four-day Youth Tech Rise Bootcamp for young people in the area from 29 June to 2 July 2026. The bootcamp will provide participants with first-hand experience of emerging technologies, including Coding and Robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), Cybersecurity, Virtual Reality, and 3D Printing.
The aim is to foster confidence and stimulate interest among local youth in careers, innovation, and entrepreneurship within emerging technology sectors.


The two programmes form part of the year-long commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the June 16, 1976, Soweto Student Uprising, as well as the observance of Mandela Month.

The Deputy Minister will outline the government's plans to support youth participation in the digital economy and strengthen partnerships that create sustainable opportunities for young creatives, innovators, and entrepreneurs across the country.

DEPUTY MINISTER PHUMZILE MGCINA TO HOST MINISTERIAL ECONOMIC
OPPORTUNITIES AND GBVF OUTREACH PROGRAMME

The Deputy Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Ms Phumizile Mgcina (MP) will
on Thursday, 02 October 2025 host Economic Opportunities and GBVF Outreach
Programme in Maqongqo Community Hall, Ward 1 at Mkhambathini Local Municipality,
KwaZulu-Natal.

The programme is conducted in collaboration with Mkhambathini Local Municipality,
Mkhambathini Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as private sector partners.

The programme seeks to encourage Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF)
victims to take advantage of economic empowerment opportunities available within the
Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR), its entities, and in the mining
and petroleum sector.

The programme targets vulnerable groups namely Women, Youth (unemployed
graduates and youth out of school), Persons with Disabilities, as well as Gender Based
Violence and Femicide (GBVF) victims.

The event will take place as follows:
