This week, RDSP is partnering with Nal'ibali to pilot an exciting reading-for-enjoyment programme in Namaqua Central! Did you know? Studies show that 81% of Grade 4 children in South Africa struggle to read for meaning. Shockingly, 65% of children under 10 don't own a single picture book, leaving most primary school learners 3 to 4 years behind their reading age.

We are on a mission to change that! Through fun, interactive storytelling, this programme sparks children’s potential while naturally improving their vocabulary, grammar, writing style, and spelling. Let’s bring the joy of reading back into our communities!

A massive thank you to Kangnas Wind Farm for supporting this important programme and investing in the future of our children.
Well done to the incredible community volunteers who have stepped up to be part of the very first group being trained this week. Your dedication is inspiring.

Children are the heart of our future. During Children’s Week, let us celebrate every child’s right to be safe, loved, heard, and given opportunities to grow and reach their full potential. Together, we can create communities where every child can thrive.

Behind every training session are real people, real challenges, and real breakthroughs. Our recent Fundraising in a Digital Age programme gave community organisations the tools to strengthen their sustainability, build donor confidence, and plan for the future. Here’s what participants had to say about their journey — in their own words.

“I gained a better understanding of the different types of donors in communities and how donor expectations influence fundraising approaches.”

“Transparent, disciplined, and future‑focused budgeting is essential for sustainability. Taking responsibility for developing our budget was an eye‑opening experience.”

“I realised how important it is to appoint suitable and trustworthy individuals to manage organisational finances responsibly.”

“Researching funders before approaching them helps align proposals with donor priorities and builds credibility.”

“Compiling the organisational budget manually was challenging, especially with limited financial management experience, but it taught me patience and accuracy.”

“Our organisation often responds reactively to funding opportunities. This training showed us the importance of developing a long‑term fundraising strategy.”
