Deeply grateful for the kind words from the Callas Foundation, having now accompanied them for a third strategic dialogue & planning workshop. At Yada, we're passionate about guiding organizations toward clarity and purpose, and it's incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact of our work, especially when we have the opportunity to walk alongside an organization like Callas that so diligently implements their actions and commitments. It's highly gratifying to witness their dedication to honouring their vision for creating safer communities, both by being a safe space for themselves and others, and by creating safe spaces through their work. In a time of shrinking donor funds and increasing need for their services, we also deeply appreciate their commitment to valuing our work. It's a powerful reminder of the importance of partnership and mutual respect, even amidst challenging resource landscapes. Thank you, Callas Foundation, for your continued partnership and for your commitment to making a difference. We're excited to see what you accomplish! hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag

📢 Back from Sabbatical: Rest is resistance!

Greetings from our restful corner of FB where rest is not just encouraged, it's celebrated! It's been a while since we've connected on social media and after months of deep work with clients, we surrendered to a 3-month sabbatical inspired by the wisdom of The Nap Ministry. Tricia Hersey, the Nap Bishop, preaches a powerful message: "Rest is Resistance," and we couldn't agree more! In a world that glorifies hustle culture, we're unlearning those toxic norms, one baby step at a time.

Here's a glimpse into what we've learned:

Unlearning the Hustle, One Nap at a Time. We're slowly but surely realizing that our worth isn't defined by productivity. Don't be surprised if you find us taking a 20-minute power nap during lunch.

Rest is a Human Right, Not a Reward. Remember those times we pushed ourselves to burnout before even thinking about taking a break? Well, we're not doing that anymore.

Productivity DOES NOT Define Our Worth. It was tough to step away from work completely, but we eventually learned to let go. We're ditching the idea that we need to be constantly "doing" to be valuable.

Resisting the Grind: In a world obsessed with busyness, choosing rest is a bold act of defiance. We're loving the FRIDA happiness manifesto – have you checked it out?

The Power of Stillness: We found immense power in simply slowing down and being. Pajamas, daydreams, and zero chores, with screens babysitting kids (we're not perfect!)? Yes, please!

Resting Together: We learned that rest isn't just a solo act; it's a communal experience that strengthens bonds. Our weekly ocean swims with partners, soaking up the sun (and not talking about work) during the sabbatical were proof of that, and now we're craving more collaboration in work and peer learning. Thanks Reflect Coaching Life Skills, Three Cord Create & Consult, Sidney Pretorius, Beulah Thumbadoo and Freedom44 Coaching & Facilitation Services for bracing the cold waters in the early hours of the morning! Let's keep it going.

Rest as Justice: We're recommitting to weaving rest into our work, especially for those fighting for social justice in marginalized communities.

Honoring Our Ancestors: We took time to reflect on the rest that was denied to generations past.

Rest Doesn't Mean No Responsibility: Stepping back from work allowed us to prioritize rest, but our caregiving responsibilities remained. Navigating the balance between rest and caregiving was a learning experience, highlighting the importance of self-care for those in nurturing roles.

We've returned to our work with calmer minds, sharper focus, and a deeper capacity for compassion and learning. And we're carrying the wisdom of The Nap Ministry with us, inviting you to join the rest revolution!

How are you incorporating rest into your life? Let's exchange tips and create a culture of rest together!

We have an outstanding report since March 2023... hard to believe! We provided the detailed minute of the meeting, but if you are a client, you know the beautiful photo documentation that we develop, summarising the salient discussions of a workshop. The client has been so gracious and we don't usually leave reports longer than a month after... we are taking it up this morning and realise now why we were not able to pick it up. It was a strategic planning session, but before we could commence the "thinking work", the team needed "heart work, gut work, breath work - sacred work" that took up the first half of the workshop when we had so little time already. The stories we heard that day, haunts us still... and coming back to this draft, we understand why we could not just conclude the report... it was not just another strategic documentation of a meeting... it is about how to honour those stories and experiences of the team and their clients/ partners they work with... this does not excuse this significant delay, especially in circumstances where that team goes and faces their clients/ partners every day... it just helps us understand the cost it takes to do our work, and despite great intentions.... we are not always able to deliver as contracted. This report feels like a story... that is not mine to tell....

We are still spinning from closing out an unbelievable first quarter of 2023 and can hardly believe the second quarter is kicking off. We have been facilitating climate conversations since 2019 and this year have been invited to facilitate deep dives in the Just Energy Transition and Youth Employment space- there is so much to reflect on as we deepen our own practice and also what we are noticing. We are creating some time to write soon. Until then, a little taster of what we have been up to is captured in the picture below. Our partner of Three Cord Create & Consult (Pty) Ltd is growing her graphic harvesting skills and co-created this visual with her partner following our most recent roundtable - check-out the picture below. We love partnering with Three Cord Create & Consult, as we can always count on their high quality facilitation, report writing and harvesting.

Hope you and your teams will flourish in this 2023! We kicked-off our year with a learning exchange where we collaborated with Sidney Pretorius, from Legal Spectrum who shared his knowledge, wisdom and experience on business structuring and property investment. Sidney is married to Ronel Pretorius and father to bubbly Cadence Pretorius. He is currently managing his family property business and last month, started a new business venture: Legal Spectrum, focusing on contracts, corporate transactions, company structures, projects management, transport and legal advice. He holds an LLB, together with 9 other qualifications from 7 different institutions across SA (including CAPUT, UWC, UCT and UNISA) ranging from communication, business management, tax, and law. He has 18 years post qualification experience, with 7 years in the public sector and 11 years in the private sector. He practiced law at 2 of the leading law firms in the country namely Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr and Webber Wentzel Bowens, focusing on contracts and corporate commercial transactions. He has conducted business since the age of 11, selling spices, fruit and veg. While working with Sidney at very demanding 16 hour jobs, we remember Sidney referring to this 16 hour job as his passive income, while building his very diverse side hustles. Did we add that he is also a musician, playing up to 10 instruments😊! Thanks for a mind-blowing session Sidney, that wowed the diverse participants that ranged from wealth bankers, engineers, psychologists, realtors, coaches, human capital practitioners and government officials. There were so many learnings, a big one which shifted our mindsets was "your credit worthiness is an asset!" Looking forward to collaborating for both learning and working Sidney. This session was followed by a gentle Vision Board process facilitated by Mandy Antzoylatos - thanks for your lovely offer Mandy!

What an absolute intense year 2022 has been. We've only been able to work 6 months out of this year due to family responsibility, having referred much work away. Where we stayed connected to work, we have been pushed to our learning edge. We are immensely grateful to our clients who have allowed us in and trusted us with their high value- high risk processes, despite our reduced capacity and availability. We were struck by our clients commitment to journey with us saying "Adelaide, we are here for you and we want to support your business" but more than that the comfort and support we received while holding processes. We could not have imagined in our wildest dreams when opening our doors in 2018, that we could operate beyond transaction and service provision to accompaniment, as we are fully invested in processes we facilitate. As Lebo Ramafoko indicated in one of our processes this year "it was not the monies of the world that saved us during covid (difficult times), it was relationships, partnerships, networks" and we are truly grateful to our clients for allowing us to accompany them in this way, with all the imperfection that comes with it. We wish all our clients a joyfilled break over the festive season and look forward to reconnecting and deepening relationships in 2023. With love and gratitude.

Continuing our partner appreciation post with who beautifully surfaces and articulates what is going on, so that stuck energy can be transformed. Boundaries and accountability has been key concepts to explore as part of our work with Shamillah! Not always fun, but always transformative! And her personalized coaching cards have resonated deeply with us and the individuals and groups we supported this year. We appreciate you Sham!
