The choices made at design stage shape what happens after we use a product.

Mpact collaborated with Highveld Honey to migrate their product from PVC bottles to PET. They're jointly recognised for packaging that can be more easily collected and recycled, helping reduce waste and keep materials in use for longer.

‼️ Calling all collections partners: Buy-back centres, waste management companies and recyclers ‼️

Petco is currently conducting a national study on the use of compostable and biodegradable packaging in South Africa, and how these materials impact PET recycling systems. The study is being undertaken by Lumec on Petco’s behalf.

The aim is to better understand how these types of packaging enter both the market and the waste stream, and what this means for collection, sorting, recycling and composting processes.

As part of the study, we are engaging stakeholders across the value chain to gather practical, on-the-ground insights. Your input will help ensure the findings accurately reflect real industry experiences.

We’re pleased to share that the price for Liquid Board Packaging (LBP) has been reinstated to 2025 levels, following discussions between Mpact Recycling, Petco and Tetra Pak.

Earlier this year, a temporary price adjustment was put in place due to challenges around processing solutions and added storage costs. These issues have now been resolved.

Thank you for your continued support during this time. We recognise the strong recovery in LBP volumes during 2025 and remain committed to maintaining this momentum.

Updated pricing:
- Baled LBP (H15+) to Springs Mill: R2,200 per ton
- Baled LBP (H15+) to an Mpact branch: R1,850 per ton
- Loose LBP to an Mpact branch: R1,400 per ton

Please note: smaller bales will be bought at the loose price due to re-baling requirements. Collection of LBP (loose or baled) should be arranged directly with your nearest Mpact branch.
