Big smiles, golf and goals! ⛳💗

Our girls from Prestwich and Garden Village Primary arrived for their lessons with coaches Prince, Siphiwo, and Litabe, Golf Director, Jonathan, and Sally, to find two special guests waiting to surprise them: FiveWest’s COO, Tayla Wilson, and Software Developer, Steph Tuohy! ✨

Sharing stories about their school days and careers, Tayla and Steph encouraged the girls to give their best, explore different interests and keep learning. Your dreams may change as you grow, and the more you learn and experience, the more opportunities you open up for yourself.
Each girl received a journal to start putting her goals on paper. A thoughtful gift to remind her that her dreams deserve a plan! 📖🌟

A wonderfully mad day at Metropolitan Golf Club! 🌸⛳️🎩

Sally joined Sue, Zenzi and Lynette for the annual Floral Cup, a much loved event held to celebrate the arrival of spring and bringing together women golfers from clubs across Cape Town.

This year’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme added plenty of colour and fun to the competition.

Congratulations to Terry Copelowitz on taking first place, with Sue finishing second!

The event was proudly sponsored by Prins & Prins Jewellery, represented by Penny Murdock, with funds raised in support of Pikkewynkies.

During this week’s coaching session with our Prestwich Primary girls, Sally Little demonstrated how the correct stance, ball position and shoulder turn work together to create a better swing.

An extraordinary opportunity for these young golfers to learn from one of the greats while building their own skills and confidence, one lesson at a time. 💗

Congratulations Kenny, well deserved.. We played the in the PGA/ mixed team together back in the day

We are proud to introduce the final inductee in the inaugural McCracken County High School Hall of Fame and Hall of Heritage class: Kenny Perry, a graduate of Lone Oak High School!

Kenny began his golf career at Lone Oak High School and continued competing at Western Kentucky University before turning professional in 1982.

During his outstanding career, he earned 27 professional victories, including 14 PGA Tour wins and 10 PGA Tour Champions victories. He reached No. 4 in the Official World Golf Ranking and represented Team USA in multiple Ryder Cups, including the victorious 2008 team at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.

Kenny’s many honors include the prestigious Payne Stewart Award, PGA Tour Champions Rookie of the Year, the Charles Schwab Cup and Champions Tour Player of the Year.

From Lone Oak High School to the highest levels of professional golf, Kenny has represented McCracken County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky with exceptional skill, sportsmanship and distinction.

Join us Sept. 18 as we celebrate Kenny and all members of the inaugural Hall of Fame and Hall of Heritage class!

Induction Ceremony: 5:30–6:30 p.m. in the C-Plant Auditorium at MCHS

Pregame Recognition: 6:45 p.m. before the Mustangs host Union County at Marquette Stadium

A little bunker TLC at SLC4X! ⛳

Our grounds team has been hard at work topping up the sand in our bunkers, helping to keep them in good playing condition for everyone using the practice facilities.

Did you know?

Golf bunkers weren't originally designed at all. The earliest golf courses developed on the sandy links land of Scotland, where wind, erosion and grazing animals created natural hollows and exposed areas of sand. Early golfers simply played the landscape as they found it, so these sandy areas became natural obstacles to be negotiated during a round.

As golf moved away from the Scottish links and purpose built courses began to develop, bunkers came too. Course designers deliberately incorporated them to challenge a golfer's accuracy, shot selection and skill, eventually turning a naturally occurring feature into one of the most recognisable elements of golf course design.

So, while we're adding fresh sand to the bunkers at SLC4X, we're also maintaining a little piece of golfing history. ⛳

GOLF MYTH: “Keep your head down!”

It’s probably one of the most common pieces of advice heard on a golf course. But is it actually good advice?

Watch the pros and you’ll notice that their heads often stay remarkably stable during the swing and through impact. The key word, though, is stable, not stuck.

Good head stability helps maintain posture, balance and consistent ball striking. But deliberately forcing your head down can restrict your natural rotation and interfere with your follow through.

So perhaps the advice needs a little update: Keep your head stable, not stuck.
