What began with one crisis, was soon followed by another, even more severe. In these dark days we created a campaign for the World Wildlife Fund's 2020 Earth Hour initiative. What began as an idea around load shedding, encouraging people to realise the power is in their hands, was soon followed by the COVID-19 Pandemic. The messaging still rings true, however, as we have to realise that our actions on the planet and defiance of nature will always end badly as Earth retaliates. The power is still in our hands, just wash them regularly and be considerate so we can all beat this together and celebrate Earth Hour for nature.

Globally, it's business unusual at the moment, which is usual for North. Given the connectivity demands of our international client base and our ability to work remotely anyway, North is perfectly positioned to continue our work unabated with our usual collaborative energy.

While our studio remains open - with stringent workplace COVID-19 preventative measures in place - most of our team are working from home and are all connected seamlessly through either Zoom or Google Hangouts for reviews, collaboration and presentations.

We want to wish all of you well, as every human being traverses these unchartered waters together. Be sensible, remain calm and focus on making things better together.

Hello again, dear friends of North. The intense colour palettes and sea swept textures which make up Seapoint were the inspiration behind our latest launch campaign for Blok Raw. Using Made By Seapoint as the defining concept we shot, designed, edited, soundtracked and created a series of assets which will be unfurled in all of their gritty, reality-tinged splendour for you over the next few posts. In these strange days, dear friends, we must all be aware of our place in the world and the greater scheme of things. Be responsible, be careful and be generous because we are always exponentially better together, as we believe can be seen in the work we create with our wonderful clients, new and old.

Sometimes you are lucky enough to meet a group of people in your life that climb into and make a home inside your heart. And sometimes you dig your heels in and you don’t let them go. Other times, you’re twenty-something and you have no choice. But you’ve found yourself lucky enough that they’re just as fond of you as you are of them. Which means the people that were your colleagues, your mentors, for 3+ years, well, they become something deeper. They become a family you’ll never shake. To the clients, partners, friends of NORTH VCA, know how lucky you are. To bear witness to the creative magic and community spirit of North. To work alongside a team that cares so deeply and so genuinely. Because each and every single person at North gives it their all. An incredible breadth and depth of talent, immersion and hardwork. From the creative and conceptual to the client service and project management.

To you guys, Mike, Gav, Olivier, Lyndon, Werner, Bennett, Chev, Laura, Tessel, Garth, Muriel, Georgie, Bara, Barbara, Nadia, Selma (going through the office seating in my head hahaha) and even Marc, Nettie, Daniel: you guys are a gal’s dream come true. You’ll never have to look far to find my crazy energy cheering you on from the other side of the world. My heart and life is fuller for knowing you, loving you, missing you.

Ahh, Bree Street. Where all of Cape Town's cronuts and unnecessarily loud cafe racers live shoulder to tattooed shoulder. But beneath this harmonious facade of fever trees and airbrushed sugar mamas, a fierce battle raged on. A battle for the coveted crown of the city bowl's most pious sonic edge-lord, the fringiest ruler of the alternate airwaves, the most envied musical curator of Friday playlists at NORTH VCA's headquarters. For two straight hours, two of our fiercest deck scratchers beamed down their grooviest selections from the dizzying heights of Cape Town's ivory towers to the yuppie kingdom below.

Whether you're a Jason or a Frank, a bag of botox or an Arcade waitress, an ethical Pinterest celiac or a lo-fi web developer in hi-tech sandals, there is a musical buffet for all to feast on. After Gavin lost narrowly to Chev once the ballots were tallied, he released this statement: "My entire 'set' was created by pushing shuffle on my iPod because I'm middle-aged and Chev is quite rightly the winner. If you combined the current temperatures and divided them by two you would have very agreeable weather, as the aircon wars continue in Cape Town to find the perfect sweet spot while Amsterdam is removing their mittens to type. In other news between Amsterdam and Cape Town, we are very excited to (kinda) announce a wonderful new partnership with Hotel de l'Europe. For the moment, all we can tell you is that the name is Trattoria Graziella and all we can show you is the trattoria-front pictured below. As for the rest, it will be revealed before you know it. And before you know it, it will be spring on the continent. We look forward to showing you what we've been up to, dearest friends of North. Until then, totsiens en danke wel.
