Sunworx heat pumps trumps competition:
Sunworx heat pumps have been used in a number of developments over the past year with much success. Feedback from our clients range from “very happy” to “you guys are the best”.
Sunworx heat pumps are competitively priced, positioning us a definite option when selecting a supply partner. We recently saved a large developer more than a quarter of a million rand on one 240-unit development, just on the heat pump cost. More importantly, and echoed by the developer, is the fact that the Sunworx heat pumps have given them a lot more satisfaction due to a massive difference with reliability experienced. Our products have simply outperformed the competition in price, installation cost and operation.
Sunworx heat pumps use German engineered and manufactured Wilo circulation pumps, Sanyo/Panasonic condensers. It is also designed with larger diameter spec’d internal copper piping which negates the need to put in strainers/filters, saving more time and money with installations.

When to select a heat pump:
The hot water system selection is an important decision as this generally would be the largest consumer of electricity in a home, generally around 40% of total consumption. Although a number of factors need to be considered when selecting the right solution for a specific building, the rule of thumb is to calculate the volume of hot water required daily ie 2 people with a shower will use around 120litres per day and a 3 bed, 2 bathroom house with 6 occupants who shower and bath, will use over 400-450litres per day.
As solar collector panels can only heat water whilst there is direct sunlight, hot water can only be generated during these times. In the larger family scenario, a 150litre solar geyser will not come close to the supply demand and the geyser element would need to be used to heat the water again, easily adding 2-4hours of electricity usage per day (150litre geyser has a 3000W element, heating 2-4hrs per day = additional 6-12kW per day)
A heat pump would offer your client better efficiency as this would only require 3-5kW per day (running 4-6hrs per day).
Best solution for above:
2 x 200litre tanks in series, coupled to a 8kW heat pump
A Sunworx 7,8kW heat pump only use 2,2kW input power and can heat 400litres of water in less than 3 hours, ample supply for up to 6 people.
Expected electricity usage = 6kW per day for 400litres
Installation Tips:
Diffuser pipe
This little item costs around R3 but will save you endless amount of hassles and money. Due to the nature of how hot water rises and the impact when cold water comes into the tank, it is important to mix the water when the heat pump is working. The heat pump circulates water from the tank and transfers heat during each cycle. The diffuser mixes the water and ensures that there is even heating of the tank water and that the hot water leaving the tank is also a constant temperature. Without the diffuser, your client can experience a short burst of the hot water followed by colder water as the tank refills, prompting calls to you complaining that their heat pump is not working.
