FINANCE MEDIA APPOINTS VETERAN JOURNALIST VERNON WESSELS AS MANAGING DIRECTOR
(Cape Town/Johannesburg, 12 April 2021) – Finance Media has hired veteran journalist Vernon Wessels with immediate effect as Managing Director.

Vernon joins from U.S.-based global news agency Bloomberg, where he helped build the Johannesburg office into one of the most formidable newsrooms in Africa in various roles as reporter, editor, manager and trainer. For the past five years, Vernon worked as finance editor for Bloomberg’s Middle East and Africa team, covering everything from billion-dollar bond deals and takeovers, to the inner workings of the monetary and financial systems of key economies in the region. He also participated in the Bloomberg Media Initiative for Africa, helping coach mid-career editors and reporters on how capital markets work, the use of data to tell stories, financial writing and ethics. Before joining Bloomberg in 2004, Vernon was markets editor and a columnist for Business Report.

Based in Cape Town and established by Lisa Brouwers and the late Bruce Allen, Finance Media has decades of experience in media relations, financial writing and reputational management for companies including banks, insurers, asset managers, healthcare funders and providers, property developers, actuarial consultants and law firms.
