MANIFESTO
John Paisley
Standing for election as COMENSA President.
I have a deep belief in the power of coaching to effect change and transformation for individuals and organisations. Coaching has a powerful role to play in South Africa, enabling us to achieve our individual, organizational and national objectives and dreams.
Coaching should be recognized and known as a valuable, powerful process which is fully utilized in our country. Coaches should be at work, enabling positive change, in every aspect of our society.
Coaching must be recognized as a professional industry by the general public as well as coaches.
To achieve this, we need a powerful, professional organization that enables the industry to be self regulating. COMENSA is the body to achieve this.
If COMENSA is going to be effective in this role, it needs to “professionalise”. By this I mean that it must be “professional’ in every aspect of its functioning: it must be efficient and effective, say what it will do and do what it says it will do, live its values and ethics, and make a positive contribution to its members and its society. (We know that “it” (COMENSA) is us, the coaches who are the organization.)
STRATEGY
To achieve this, I advocate two concurrent strategies: “Internal Professionalisation” and “ Build External Relationships”. (Note that this is a summary. Detail will be available!)
Internal
1. Review all COMENSA’s administrative processes, systems and procedures to ensure that they are operating effectively and efficiently.
2. Revitalize the Portfolio Committee’s and Special Interest Groups to engage all members in creating the desired future.
3. Implement a credentialing process which is efficient and fair, providing both coaches and their clients with a means of objective assessment. We will also accredit training institutions and implement a Continuing Professional Development process.
4. Revitalise our communications systems and media to ensure that all members are informed and can choose to be engaged.
5. Ensure that we have systems of good governance, that we act constitutionally and within our mandate, that office bearers act professionally and that we maintain financial independence and integrity.
6. Implement a process whereby coaches can make a contribution to our wider society, including areas where we find particular challenges such as education, health, crime….
External
We will also focus on matters external to COMENSA:
1. Build relationships and alliances with all other coaching bodies, and other bodies with whom we interact (SABPP, SIOPSA,….)
2. Apply for registration as a professional body in South Africa.
3. Make every effort to create awareness of coaching in the market place – bake a bigger cake so that all can have a larger slice. We operate with an abundance mindset.
4. Build relationships with the media to raise awareness of coaching
5. Build the brand of COMENSA – representing vitality, innovation, inclusivity, professionalism, abundance and community.
I would invite all coaches to join us on our exciting journey into the future, and to bring with them an abundance mindset.
