Two weeks of learning, practical training and scientific exploration have come to an end!🎉

The Practical Training in Genomics Techniques Course has equipped participants with hands-on experience across key areas of genomics, from DNA extraction and quality control to Real-Time PCR, Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and introductory bioinformatics.

Week 2 took participants further into the genomics workflow, with practical exposure to NGS technologies and bioinformatics, giving them an opportunity to connect laboratory techniques with the analysis and interpretation of genomic data.
A special thank you to all our facilitators for sharing their expertise and guiding participants throughout the course, and congratulations to all the participants on completing their training! 👏🏽

We reflect on our commitment to creating opportunities for practical learning, skills development and knowledge sharing, helping equip the next generation of scientists with skills that can contribute to the future of genomics and research in South Africa. Week One Complete at the CPGR Academy!🎉

Our participants have officially wrapped up the first week of the Practical Training in Genomics Techniques Course, gaining hands-on experience in DNA extraction, quality control, and the fundamentals of Real-Time PCR (qPCR) through a combination of theory and practical laboratory sessions.
A special thank you to Le Grange and Aubrey Shoko for sharing their knowledge and guiding participants as they build practical skills in genomics.
In the spirit of National Science Month 2026, the CPGR Academy is bringing science closer to people through hands-on training, knowledge sharing, and practical skills development. By investing in emerging talent and creating opportunities for learning, we are helping inspire the next generation of scientists while contributing to a stronger, more innovative South Africa.
