Glass-walled pool for a private client in Constantia, a few years back. In colab with RC Construction.

37.76mm toughened multilaminated glass, durogrouted into a galvanised steel channel.

Glass that holds water back is safety glass work. The glass takes the load of the water, so thickness and build-up are worked out for the depth and the span. Multilaminated is the strength of toughened glass with the safety of laminated: several layers of glass joined by a tough interlayer, so it stays intact even if it breaks.

Every install is to SANS Part-N, with a glazing compliance certificate.

Pools are one of the things we do.

Side dome mounted frameless balustrade, finished at a Constantia home this week.

Toughened safety glass, set into small round stainless brackets. No top rail, no channel at the base, no vertical posts. The brackets are the only hardware you see, and they sit tight to the glass line.

The reason you spec dome mounts: the brief is "the view, not the hardware." Side mounts hide the fixings into the face of the structure, dome mounts hide them under the glass. Channel mounts are the quickest to install but they put a continuous aluminium strip at the base. For a home where the sightline is the whole point of putting glass up in the first place, the dome mount is the clean answer.

Toughened across every panel. A balustrade is a safety barrier before it is anything else, and both the glass and the brackets have to be rated for the load.

Planning a reno? Ask us early. It's a cheaper decision now than after the fact.

Top mounted, spiggot fitted balustrade going in around a pool in Sunningdale. Pool still empty, ladder still in, deck not yet re-sealed. We tend to be the last trade on the job before the water goes in.

Pool balustrades are a safety install first, a design choice second. SANS 10400 requires a barrier around any residential pool that could reasonably trap a child, and that barrier has to be rated for impact. Toughened safety glass meets the spec without turning the pool into a fenced-off box, which is why most of our clients choose it over timber slats or steel.

Mount style on this one is top, bolted straight into the deck. The hardware sits tight to the glass line, so from the house the balustrade reads as glass alone, not glass plus brackets. The brackets take all the load.

Reveal to follow once the deck is finished and the pool is filled.

We've are proud to have been working on the grounds through 2026.

The foyer in the main building came first. Aluminium replacement, matched to the existing brickwork profile, put in over a school holiday so the boys came back to a working entrance.

Then the classrooms across the older block. Windows that were 40-plus years old, half-seized, single glazed, and letting winter in. Replaced in phases so teaching wasn't interrupted.

Then the change-room dividers in the sports pavilion. Custom white aluminium shower cubicle dividers.

Old school buildings need people who know both the modern spec and how to work around what's already there. Not every window gets ripped out. Some get restored. Some get replaced with something that reads the same as the original but performs like modern glazing should.

Every school on the peninsula has this problem. Estate boards have it. Heritage-listed commercial buildings have it. We've been solving it since 1989.

If your school, estate or commercial building has windows on their last legs, come and talk to us. Easier to plan than to react.

Aluminium at the coast. The question we get every second week.

Does it rust? No. Aluminium doesn't contain iron, so rust is not what happens to it. What can happen, if the spec is wrong, is corrosion. The coating fails, salt air gets to the bare metal, and you see pitting and chalking within a couple of winters.

Three things get the spec right for a Cape Town coastal job:

Marine-grade powder coating, not standard architectural. It's thicker, and formulated for salt exposure.

Stainless steel fixings all the way through. Any zinc-plated screw in a coastal frame is a rust bloom waiting to happen.

Drainage detailing that actually gets water out. Weep holes clear, sills sloped, no traps where salt water can sit against the frame.

Get those three right and coastal aluminium is a long-term answer. Skip one and you're back on the ladder in two years.

If your job is in Sea Point, Camps Bay, Clifton, Hout Bay, Kommetjie or anywhere the salt spray reaches, come and talk to us before you sign the aluminium quote. Easier to get right the first time than to argue about it in year three.

FAQ: How long does a glass install take?

Fair question, and the honest answer is: it depends on the job.

Same day is most repairs. A broken pane, a cracked shower door, a mirror that's come off the wall. We get in, get it sorted, and go.

1 to 2 days covers a standard frameless shower, a small balustrade run, a splashback. Templated one day, fitted the next.

3 to 5 days is a bigger frameless setup with multiple panels, a longer balustrade, a statement door. More components, more setting out.

2 to 4 weeks is where steel frame restoration, heritage window rebuilds, and big commercial jobs land. Fab shop time, curing time, coordination with other trades.

Every quote we give includes a realistic time on site. If we say Tuesday, we're on your driveway on Tuesday.

Frameless shower enclosure fitted against a fluted stone wall. Toughened glass, minimal hardware, no framing.

The whole point of a wall like that is texture. A framed enclosure would fight it. Frameless keeps the eye on the fluting and the light coming down from the skylight above.

Frameless glass doors fitted into the original timber archway at Cellars Hohenort Hotel in Constantia. The arch is one of the features guests recognise, so a framed door would have done the wrong job. It would have cut the shape in half.

Toughened glass cut to the arch profile, minimal hardware tucked into the jamb, no top rail. The timber does the framing. The glass does the weather.
